We are seeking a contract immigration attorney to support a growing immigration law firm through legal writing, legal research, consultations, litigation support, and mentorship of legal staff. This role is ideal for an experienced immigration lawyer who enjoys practicing law, developing legal strategy, and helping strengthen a legal team without the pressure of managing firm operations or maintaining a traditional, rigid schedule. This is a flexible, remote contractor position. You set your own hours and availability. Work may include project-based assignments, consultations, staff support, and optional court appearances. The ideal candidate is thoughtful, collaborative, detail-oriented, and capable of producing strong legal work with minimal supervision. Responsibilities: Legal Writing & Research • Draft motions, briefs, declarations, legal memoranda, and responses to RFEs/NOIDs • Conduct legal research on complex or evolving immigration law issues • Assist with the development of legal arguments and case strategy • Support litigation preparation as needed • Review legal issues, analyze evidence, and identify case strengths and vulnerabilities Consultations & Client Guidance • Conduct consultations with prospective and existing clients • Evaluate eligibility for immigration relief and explain legal options clearly • Provide recommendations and next steps following consultations • Assist with escalated or legally complex client matters when attorney involvement is needed • Collaborate with intake and legal staff regarding case viability and strategy Training & Team Development • Train staff on immigration law, procedures, drafting, and legal standards • Provide feedback and mentorship to junior legal staff and paralegals • Help improve templates, SOPs, workflows, and internal legal resources • Participate in collaborative legal discussions and case strategy meetings • Support overall legal quality control within the firm Optional Court Appearances • Attorneys who wish to do so may appear in immigration court for hearings and related proceedings • Court appearances are optional and compensated separately Types of Cases The firm primarily handles: • Family-based immigration • Asylum • Humanitarian relief (VAWA, U Visas, T Visas, Deferred Action, Military PIP) • Waivers • Consular processing • Removal defense support • EOIR Motions and BIA filings Qualifications: • Active U.S. bar license in good standing • Proven immigration law experience, actively practicing immigration law for the past three consecutive years. • Strong legal writing and analytical skills • Ability to work independently in a remote environment • Comfortable collaborating with support staff and providing guidance • Strong organizational and communication skills • Experience with humanitarian and family-based immigration matters preferred • Spanish fluency preferred but not required Compensation • $40–$50/hour for legal writing, research, consultations, training, and advisory work • $80/hour for client preparation sessions • $100/hour for court appearances, if the attorney chooses to accept them • Flexible contractor arrangement • Fully remote Compensation: $40 - $100 hourly
