Job Summary
The Control Room Operator – Gas Plant is responsible for monitoring and controlling plant operations through DCS (Distributed Control System) and SCADA platforms. This associate-level role ensures safe, efficient, and continuous operation of gas turbine systems, auxiliary equipment, and electrical generation systems. The ideal candidate has experience in industrial plant operations and strong situational awareness for managing real-time system conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor plant systems from the control room using DCS, SCADA, or HMI systems
- Maintain optimal plant performance by adjusting operating parameters
- Respond to alarms, abnormal conditions, and system changes in real-time
- Support gas turbine startups, shutdowns, and load changes
- Coordinate with field operators to ensure safe and efficient operations
- Maintain accurate operational logs, reports, and event tracking
- Follow established procedures for emergency response and plant safety
- Conduct data trending and assist with root cause analysis of equipment anomalies
- Support environmental and regulatory compliance monitoring
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Power Plant Technology, Instrumentation, or related field
- 2–5 years of experience in control room or plant operations, preferably in gas-fired or combined cycle facilities
- Proficiency with SCADA/DCS platforms and basic instrumentation knowledge
- Understanding of turbines, boilers, pumps, generators, and electrical switchgear
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable working rotating shifts, including nights and weekends
- Valid driver's license and ability to work on-site in a high-reliability environment
Preferred Certifications
- OSHA 30 Certification
- NERC Generator Operator Certification (preferred but not required)
- First Aid/CPR
- HAZMAT or Lockout/Tagout training
