    Controller

    Position Summary:

    The position will report to the CFO and is responsible for the overall operation and management of the Finance Department, which includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management and all related financial reporting and tax filings. This role is a combination of technical accounting and operational accounting duties. The Controller is responsible for managing the organization’s financial reporting and financial health to promote success and growth while maintaining legal financial practices. It requires the ability to create and maintain collaborative working relationships with peers, external auditors, and vendors. The Controller must prioritize and implement process-driven solutions and manage deadlines and is a member of the leadership team and demonstrates the values of the organization.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform timely and accurate financial reporting, month and year-end close process, management of daily journal entries and general accounting operations (including cash receipts, payroll, revenue/accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, reconciliations).
    • Ensure that payroll is processed in timely and accurate manner.
    • Prepare and analyze financial reports and identify and explain key variances.
    • Manage and forecast company cash flow requirements.
    • Oversee and improve accounting processes and internal controls, analytics.
    • Take an active role in the annual budgeting process.
    • Proactively find and quickly resolve problems.
    • Supervise and manage accounting staff, and maintain responsibility for timesheet approval, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, firing, and staff development.
    • Review and abide by company policies and procedures.

    Qualifications and Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in a business, accounting or related field and 10+ years working experience with a multi-state professional service firm, managing accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and financial reporting and experience with accounting and payroll software.
    • 2+ years of professional experience as a Controller or similar role at a financial service firm or a similar type of organization. Mastery of accounting principles and practices (U.S. GAAP), controls, analyses and reconciliations.
    • Demonstrable experience analyzing and interpreting accounting transactions and financial issues.
    • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to distill complex problems to its component parts, and then propose actionable solutions.
    • Experience with project accounting standards and best practices.
    • Collaborative working style and demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships.
    • Ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate will all levels of the organization and with various personality styles.
    • Attention to detail and recall and the ability to produce and analyze financial statements.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • M&A Experience including integration of accounting functions
    • CPA certification
    • Experience with Ajera or Deltek systems

    Physical Demands and Working Environment

    The Controller is a full-time position, sedentary in nature, and requires walking, talking, hearing and visual and mental acuity. The work environment is that of a typical office, with a desk, computer, and chair. Other office equipment is easily accessible within short walking distances. The work is performed primarily during regular business hours, but extra time may be required, especially when deadlines are approaching. Travel of up to 10% may be required. The work can be demanding and stressful at times, with constant verbal and written communication with organizational colleagues at all levels of the organization. The position functions independently, has a high degree of control over their work, and resultant outcomes but is accountable for overall reporting and maintenance of financial and accounting records, and meeting very specific deadlines on a daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
