  • Responsibilities

    The Controller will be responsible for leading the company’s accounting and financial reporting functions while providing strategic financial guidance to executive leadership. This role oversees all aspects of construction accounting, including job cost controls, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, revenue recognition, and cash flow management. The ideal candidate has a strong background in commercial construction accounting and experience supporting project operations in a fast-paced environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Accounting & Financial Operations

    • Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end/year-end close
    • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
    • Manage revenue recognition in accordance with percentage-of-completion and GAAP standards
    • Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure proper classification of costs and revenues

    Construction & Project Accounting

    • Manage job cost accounting and ensure accurate tracking of labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead
    • Prepare and analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and project profitability reports
    • Partner with Project Managers to review job budgets, cost forecasts, and change orders
    • Monitor project margins and identify risks or cost overruns
    • Oversee contract billing, progress billings, and retention

    Cash Flow & Financial Planning

    • Monitor cash flow, collections, payables, and working capital needs
    • Prepare cash flow forecasts and support funding and banking relationships
    • Assist in annual budgeting and periodic forecasting
    • Analyze financial performance and provide actionable insights to leadership

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
    • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in commercial construction
    • Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting
    • Experience with construction accounting systems (Sage 300, Procore, or similar)
