About Us
Fast-growing freight forwarding & logistics company specializing in ocean imports, drayage, and intermodal transport. We use proprietary software that solves transparency problem in ocean freight forwarding, which has resulted in substantial growth for the company. We're seeking a hands-on Controller with strong operational finance experience in freight forwarding and import logistics.
Role Summary
Lead all accounting and finance functions with a focus on operational cost control, pricing accuracy, cash management, and financial reporting. Work closely with operations and leadership to drive profitability, optimize freight costs, and strengthen financial discipline.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee full-cycle accounting (AR, AP, GL, month-end close, financial statements)
Manage cash flow, 90-day cash forecast, and annual budgeting process
Analyze ocean freight, drayage, and other costs; drive cost-reduction initiatives
Approve quotes/pricing and support margin optimization across lanes/services
Lead AR, credit, collections, dispute resolution, and minimize write-offs
Reconcile carrier/agent invoices and resolve billing discrepancies
Negotiate vendor rates, rebates, and incentive programs
Maintain internal controls and GAAP compliance; support audit readiness
Deliver KPI dashboards, financial reporting, and variance analysis
Review and approve sales commission calculations
Monitor working capital and liquidity needs
Collaborate with operations, sales, and compliance teams
Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
7+ years progressive accounting/finance experience
Logistics & freight forwarding experience (ocean, import, drayage)
Proven success reducing logistics costs and improving margins
Strong AR/collections and complex billing reconciliation skills
Advanced Excel & financial modeling capability
Hands-on experience approving pricing/quotes
Leadership and team-management experience
Strong communication & cross-functional coordination skills
Preferred
CPA / CMA
Experience with freight forwarding systems (e.g., Magaya)
TMS/ERP experience; multi-currency / global logistics exposure
Trade compliance and duties accounting familiarity
Prior experience in fast-growing / scaling environments
