We are currently seeking a Controller who specializes in Construction Accounting. This position is a newly created add to staff position.
The Controller will be responsible for developing and implementing the Company's financial policies, procedures, controls, and financial reporting. The position requires knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), construction accounting, as well as construction accounting software. The Controller will be a key member of the organization's leadership team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for all aspects of the accounting operations, including daily cash management.
• Oversight of AR, AP, GL maintenance, and account reconciliations.
• Management of the weekly/monthly job costing, WIP schedule, and adjusting entries related to construction projects.
• Analysis of accounting information in order to appraise operational results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and operating effectiveness.
• Preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules according to the monthly close schedule.
• Provide Company VP and management with reports and information that highlight KPIs and financial trends vital to the decision-making process.
• Responsible for regulatory reporting and timely filings, including local business and payroll taxes.
• Staying up-to-date on laws and best practices to ensure compliance.
• Facilitation of the company's annual financial audit.
• Establish and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets.
• Preparation of budgets and forecasts to help align financial goals with organizational objectives.
• Lead and oversee the company bookkeeper, as well as staff members responsible for payroll, AP, AR/billing (including AIA requisitions and change orders).
• Communicate effectively with company leadership, corporate leadership, project managers, estimators, administrative personnel, and the HR/Business Operations team.
• Lead all audit activities, including union, and workers' compensation audits
• Other projects, as assigned. **
Competencies:**
• Proficiency in technical accounting principles and practices, knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.
• Advanced Excel skills and comprehension.
• In-depth understanding of, and experience in, accounting software (Spectrum software experience a plus).

Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Controller position supervises the activities of employees involved in the company's accounting processes.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, CPA preferred.
• 8 years of accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of, and demonstrated in-depth expertise in, construction accounting – percentage of completion (POC).
• Supervisory and/or Managerial experience.
• A successful candidate will have a history demonstrating a consistent track record of driving swift results and personal commitment. **
