    Job Summary

Heritage MEP is looking for a hands-on Controller to help build the finance infrastructure for a growing multi-entity mechanical services platform.

This is not just a traditional close-and-report role. You’ll work closely with the CFO to improve processes, standardize reporting, strengthen controls, and help scale the accounting function across multiple operating companies. This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys bringing order to complexity, building better systems, and creating a finance organization that can grow with the business.

Our platform currently includes 10 operating companies, with additional companies expected to join. The environment is dynamic, acquisition-driven, and operationally complex. We are also in the middle of a Sage Intacct implementation, so this role will play a major part in helping shape how accounting runs across the platform going forward.

    What You’ll Do

Own the close and reporting process

Lead the monthly close across multiple operating companies

Ensure timely, accurate, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting

Maintain strong balance sheet integrity, reconciliations, and reporting discipline

Improve the consistency and repeatability of month-end processes

    Build scalable accounting processes

Standardize accounting workflows, policies, and SOPs across the platform

Improve visibility and consistency across different entities, systems, and charts of accounts

Support accounting for job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion, accruals, fixed assets, and lease accounting

Help create a finance function that can support continued growth and acquisitions

    Help optimize Sage Intacct

Support the design and optimization of the Sage Intacct platform

Help standardize charts of accounts, dimensions, reporting structures, and workflows

Partner on system configuration, process alignment, and accounting best practices

Assist with onboarding operating companies into a more standardized financial environment

    Partner across the platform

Work closely with the CFO and operating company leaders

Provide actionable reporting and financial clarity to leadership

Help coach and support accounting staff, bookkeepers, and local finance resources across the organization

Contribute to integration efforts as new companies are brought into the platform

What Success Looks Like in Year One

Month-end close becomes more reliable, timely, and repeatable across entities

Sage Intacct is operational and positioned to scale across the platform

Core accounting processes are better documented and standardized

Reporting quality and visibility improve for both leadership and operating companies

The accounting team structure becomes stronger and more scalable

    What We’re Looking For

    Experience

Strong accounting background, ideally in a multi-entity or public accounting environment

Experience leading or supporting monthly close and financial reporting

    Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct

    Experience with QuickBooks Desktop

    Strong Excel and data skills

    Solid command of GAAP, including:

    Accrual accounting

    WIP / percentage-of-completion

    Fixed assets and depreciation

    ASC 842 lease accounting

    Acquisition-related accounting concepts

    Nice to Have

Exposure to construction, mechanical services, field services, or multi-location operating environments

Familiarity with tools such as BuildOps, ServiceTitan, or Sage Construction Management

Experience helping standardize or improve systems during periods of growth or change

    Who You Are

Hands-on and willing to dive into the details

Comfortable operating in an evolving environment

    Process-minded, but practical

    Naturally organized and solutions-oriented

    Curious, proactive, and persistent

Able to work well across teams and personalities

Calm under pressure and focused on getting things done the right way
