Job Title: Controller
Department: Accounting
Report to: Director of Accounting and Finance
Summary: This position is responsible for the oversight and management of the daily activities of the Accounting staff in a fast paced environment.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Oversee the operations of the accounting department including leading and training the accounting staff.
- Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts.
- Manage all accounting operations including Bank reconciliation, Billing, A/R, A/P, G/L, Inventory/Cost Accounting and Revenue Recognition.
- Manage month-end closing and prepare monthly financial statements and other operation reports for the plant.
- Analyze variances and communicate explanations to management with recommended actions.
- Must work across all levels of the company to achieve plant objectives.
- Collaborates with General Manager, Plant accountants and senior management to explain results, make improvements, manage projects, identify inefficiencies, understand operations and lead the development of complex analysis.
- Monitor and implement plant internal controls (in conjunction with corporate policies) as necessary to ensure reporting integrity, safeguard company assets, and identify risks.
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and with multiple state sales tax filings.
- Prepare information as required for the annual financial audit.
- Prepare all G/L account reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment while remaining organized and professional.
- Develop all accounting policies and procedures consistent with GAAP and other accounting guidance
Qualification and Experience
- B.A degree in Accounting required.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible accounting experience with 4 years in a supervisory role, or equivalent experience.
- Manufacturing experience preferred.
- Advanced working knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Work/Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- May be required to work outside normal business hours.
