About Us J&L Construction, LLC is a growing contractor in the utilities and infrastructure sector, delivering highquality projects across North Texas. We are seeking an experienced Controller with a strong background in construction accounting and a solid understanding of CPA-level standards to lead our accounting function, strengthen financial reporting, and support our long-term growth strategy.
Position Summary The Controller will oversee all accounting and financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting. This role will standardize financial processes, implement strong internal controls, and partner closely with the Director of Operations and leadership team to provide financial insight that drives profitability.
Key Responsibilities • Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger. • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P&L;, balance sheet, cash flow). • Manage job costing, WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting, and variance analysis. • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and bonding requirements. • Implement consistent accounting policies, controls, and procedures. • Align field reporting with office accounting to improve job cost accuracy. • Evaluate and improve accounting software, reporting systems, and workflows. • Partner with the CEO and leadership team on budgets, cash flow forecasts, and financial planning. • Work with banks, bonding companies, auditors, and insurance providers to support company growth. • Provide financial analysis to improve project profitability and control overhead costs. • Supervise and mentor accounting staff (bookkeeper, payroll, admin support). • Establish a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred). • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3+ years in the construction industry. • Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion methods. • CPA license is preferred, but not required — candidates must demonstrate strong understanding of CPA-level accounting standards. • Experience with construction accounting software (Sage 300, Viewpoint, QuickBooks, CMiC, etc.). • Excellent communication and leadership skills; proven ability to partner with operations leaders.
