    Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

    About the Role

    We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations for a growing, field-driven construction and site development company. This role requires a strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, and operational finance, paired with the ability to provide clear financial insight to leadership.

    This is not a CFO role. The ideal candidate is a senior-level Controller who enjoys being close to the business, working alongside operations, and helping leadership make informed financial decisions as the company continues to grow.

    Key Responsibilities

    Accounting & Financial Operations
    • Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll coordination, and month-end close

    • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements

    • Maintain GAAP compliance and strong internal controls

    • Improve accounting processes, reporting, and systems

    Construction Finance & Job Costing
    • Oversee job costing, WIP reporting, and project cost tracking

    • Partner with project managers and operations to monitor budgets, margins, and job performance

    • Identify trends, cost overruns, and opportunities for improved profitability

    Financial Planning & Leadership Support
    • Assist ownership with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis

    • Provide practical financial insights to support operational and growth decisions

    • Develop straightforward financial reporting that leadership can act on

    Cash Flow & Risk Management
    • Monitor cash flow, receivables, and payables

    • Support banking relationships, bonding, insurance coordination, and audits

    • Assist with financial risk management and compliance efforts

    Collaboration & Scale
    • Work closely with operations, project teams, and executive leadership

    • Serve as a trusted financial partner while remaining detail-oriented and hands-on

    • Help scale financial systems and processes to support continued growth

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

    • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience

    • Strong background in construction accounting, job costing, and WIP

    • Experience working directly with ownership or senior leadership

    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused

    Preferred

    • CPA or equivalent certification

    • Experience in heavy civil, site development, excavation, or infrastructure environments

    • Experience with construction accounting or ERP systems
