POSITION DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Chef Financial Officer. The Controller will plan and direct the accounting operations of the company.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversee the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, general ledger, cash, cash management, and payroll.
- Promote training programs and identify training needs.
- Implement a new accounting system, Sage Intacct, from Sage CRE300.
- Manage internal controls and spearhead audits.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Manage the creation of monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports in alignment with GAAP standards.
- Lead the implementation of accounting software and coordinate with departments for a successful go-live.
- Guide and support the Finance team, including functions such as Payroll, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger.
- Direct the financial close processes at month-end to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Examine financial reports and statements, delivering key insights and analysis to the CFO.
- Develop and strengthen internal control systems to protect assets and maintain regulatory compliance.
- Identify areas for operational improvement and introduce the best practices to boost accuracy and efficiency.
- Spearhead the rollout of updated accounting platforms or system enhancements, ensuring team readiness and seamless transitions.
- Organize and oversee external audit activities, ensuring all required documentation is provided and questions are addressed.
- Maintain adherence to tax laws and reporting obligations, working with outside tax professionals as needed.
- Promote a collaborative, results-driven environment within the Finance function.
- Define team performance objectives, deliver consistent feedback, and encourage career development.
- Partner with other departments to align financial support with organizational goals and initiatives.
- Develop dashboards for executive management weekly.
Abilities and Skills
- Excellent management and supervisory skills.
- Sage Intacct experience or prior implementation experience required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Skilled in using ERP systems and accounting platforms.
- Minimum of 5 years working in accounting or finance, including at least 2 years in a leadership capacity.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration preferred.
- Proven track record of leading teams and implementing process enhancements.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP, financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and managing cash flow.
- Strong analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills.
- Prior system implementation experience is a plus.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
The workdays are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a flexible work schedule. Regular hours will vary occasionally due to the needs of the business.
