    Job Description

    The Controller will serve as an integral business partner, leading the operational accounting functions of SNY and reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer. As a key advisor to leadership, this role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial information in accordance with GAAP. This role is responsible for overseeing all core accounting operations, including monthly and quarterly close processes, financial reporting, payroll, treasury functions, accounts payable and the assessment and maintenance of internal controls.

    The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership capabilities to manage and develop a team of accounting professionals, implement best practices, and build scalable, efficient processes that support SNY’s continued growth.

    Responsibilities:

    Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations

    • Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring the integrity and timeliness of all financial transactions.
    • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis
    • Drive continuous improvements in financial close procedures, optimizing processes and leveraging technology to reduce manual work and efficiencies
    • Prepare and present consolidated financial statements, perform annual audit procedures and internal management reporting in compliance with GAAP
    • Manage deep knowledge of current GAAP standards and provide accounting guidance on significant matters

    **Internal Controls & Compliance **

    • Design and maintain internal control processes in compliance with SOX and regulatory requirements
    • Ensure all financial operations adhere to applicable laws and company policies
    • Serve as the primary liaison for external audits, managing deliverables and remediation efforts
    • Lead risk assessment initiatives related to accounting and reporting, identifying potential exposures and recommending mitigation strategies

    **Payroll & Treasury Management **

    • **** Manage payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing
    • Oversee treasury functions, including banking relationships, cash management, and internal protocols

    **Leadership & Team Development **

    • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
    • Provide mentorship and support career development and training for team members.
    • Establish clear performance goals, responsibilities, and evaluation frameworks
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required; advanced degree preferred
    • 12+ years of relevant accounting and controllership experience, including leadership roles

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • CPA certification strongly preferred
    • Prior experience at a Big 4 accounting firm, ideally at the management level, is highly desired
    • Exceptional knowledge of US GAAP, technical accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls framework (SOX familiarity preferred)
    • Experience overseeing core accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger
    • Proficiency with ERP systems and financial reporting tools; experience with broadcast/media industry applications (e.g. WideOrbit, Medea, Revedia, Great Plains, NetSuite, SAP) a plus
    • Advanced Excel skills and strong problem-solving ability
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

    Desired Characteristics:

    • Demonstrated ability to lead system implementations or upgrades for finance/accounting platforms
    • Experience coordinating external audits and managing audit relationships
    • Solid leadership and team management skills with a track record of developing high-performing teams
    • Ability to communicate complex financial information effectively to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
    • Relevant media industry experience preferer, including familiarity with:
      • Ad Sales revenue recognition
      • Affiliate distribution and billing models
      • Production and project accounting (sports production, events)

    **Location & Time Commitment: **

    This is a full-time role that follows a hybrid work schedule, with four in-office days per week at our downtown New York City office.

    In accordance with applicable NYC law, the estimated annual salary for this role is $125,000 - $175,000 commensurate with experience. This position is bonus eligible.
