    StaffBuffalo is working with a well-established commercial construction organization in the Buffalo area to hire a Controller (CFO Track), offering a salary range of $130,000–$150,000. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in fast-paced, operationally driven environments and is excited about stepping into a clear path toward CFO.

    This organization is entering an exciting phase of growth backed by private equity investment, creating the need for a strong financial leader who can oversee daily accounting operations, improve financial visibility, and partner closely with ownership and operations. The Controller will begin as a standalone accounting leader, overseeing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff while working alongside an outside accounting firm. This role reports directly to executive leadership and plays a central role in shaping financial strategy.

    The ideal candidate brings a blend of public accounting and industry experience, strong FP&A capability, and familiarity with construction or project-based accounting environments. This is a collaborative, high-energy workplace where finance partners closely with operations to drive smart decision-making and support continued growth.

    This is a full-time, in-office role in Buffalo, NY.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including oversight of AP and AR staff and coordination with an outside accounting firm
    • Own month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
    • Oversee job costing, WIP schedules, percent-complete revenue recognition, and margin analysis
    • Develop and manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow projections, and financial planning processes
    • Provide clear financial reporting and insights to executive leadership and private equity stakeholders
    • Strengthen internal controls, financial systems, and operational accounting processes
    • Partner closely with operations to understand project performance and improve profitability visibility
    • Support treasury management, cash flow optimization, and growth-focused financial strategy

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
    • CPA preferred but not required
    • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility
    • Strong construction or project-based accounting experience preferred, including WIP and percent-complete revenue recognition
    • FP&A experience, approximately 5+ years preferred
    • Experience working in a blended public accounting and industry background highly valued
    • Strong Excel skills and comfort working within accounting systems such as Foundation or similar ERP platforms
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and growth-oriented environment
