  • Responsibilities

    We are seeking a highly technical and detail-oriented Controller to oversee the financial operations of a sophisticated Single Family Office (SFO). This is a pivotal role that requires a mastery of multi-entity accounting across a diverse portfolio, including private equity, real estate, marketable securities, and philanthropic foundations.

    The ideal candidate will be a "hands-on" leader who can navigate complex intercompany transactions while maintaining a proactive eye on tax compliance and optimization strategies.

    Key Responsibilities

    1\. Multi-Entity Financial Management
    • Direct all accounting functions for [Number] individual and trust-held entities, ensuring accurate GAAP and tax-basis reporting.

    • Manage complex intercompany reconciliations, capital calls, and distributions across various investment vehicles.

    • Oversee consolidated financial reporting and provide the Principal with a clear "total picture" of net worth and liquidity.

    2\. Tax Strategy & Compliance
    • Act as the primary liaison with external tax advisors to facilitate the preparation of sophisticated returns (Partnerships, S-Corps, Trusts, and Foundations).

    • Maintain a rigorous Tax Calendar to ensure timely estimated payments and filings across multiple jurisdictions.

    • Monitor tax basis for all assets and assist in the execution of tax-efficient wealth transfer and estate planning strategies.

    3\. Treasury & Cash Management
    • Monitor daily liquidity and cash flow requirements for the family’s lifestyle, investments, and capital commitments.

    • Manage banking relationships and oversee the execution of private equity capital calls and alternative investment funding.

    4\. Process Innovation
    • Maintain and optimize the Family Office accounting tech stack (e.g., Sage Intacct, Addepar, SEI, or Bill.com).

    • Implement robust internal controls to safeguard family assets and ensure data privacy.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CMA designation is highly preferred.

    • Experience: 8+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Single/Multi-Family Office or the High-Net-Worth (HNW) tax group of a public accounting firm.

    • Technical Expertise: * Deep understanding of Partnership Accounting (K-1s, basis tracking, capital accounts).

      • Proficiency in multi-entity consolidation and complex GL structures.

      • Familiarity with the tax implications of diverse asset classes (Real Estate, VC/PE, Crypto, Collectibles).

    • Soft Skills: Absolute discretion and confidentiality; ability to communicate complex financial data to non-financial family members.
