Controls Design Engineer – Automation / Robotics

Wright Technical Services is representing a global leader in advanced automation and manufacturing solutions, seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to support the development of custom automated systems.
This role focuses on the electrical design and development of robotic welding cells, tooling/fixtures, and advanced manufacturing equipment, with a strong emphasis on AutoCAD Electrical schematic design.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical
- Design control panels, power distribution systems, operator stations, and safety circuits
- Develop network architecture and fieldbus layouts for automated systems
- Specify and integrate PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, sensors, and safety components
- Support PLC/HMI programming and troubleshooting (Rockwell preferred)
- Assist with system startup, debugging, commissioning, and field support
- Collaborate with mechanical, robotics, and manufacturing teams
- Maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering documentation
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and uphold quality standards
Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of experience designing industrial control systems or automated machinery
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN for schematic and panel design
- Knowledge of motor control, power distribution, safety circuits, and industrial networks
- Experience with PLC/HMI systems (Rockwell preferred)
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and system-level problem-solving skills
