Wright Technical Services is partnered with a leading automation and advanced manufacturing
organization seeking a Controls Design Engineer to support the design, development, and
implementation of electrical and automation systems for integrated tooling and high-
performance manufacturing equipment.
This role focuses on control system architecture, electrical design, PLC/HMI programming, and
system integration, working closely with mechanical, robotics, and fabrication teams to deliver
reliable, safe, and scalable automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
• Design complete electrical control system architectures, including schematics, wiring
diagrams, and control panel layouts
• Specify and integrate automation components including PLCs, HMIs, servo drives, VFDs,
sensors, actuators, and safety devices
• Develop and maintain PLC and HMI programs, implementing control logic and system
functionality
• Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, robotics, fabrication, and project teams
to ensure designs meet project and customer requirements
• Perform system testing, debugging, and troubleshooting during build, integration, and
startup phases
• Generate and maintain technical documentation in accordance with ISO 9001 and
internal engineering standards (design packages, test plans, revision tracking)
• Stay current with emerging automation technologies, industry best practices, and
applicable safety standards
Required Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline
(or equivalent hands-on experience)
• 3+ years of experience designing industrial control systems or automated machinery
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN for schematic and panel design
• Strong understanding of:
o AC/DC power distribution
o Motor control and motion systems
o Pneumatics
o Industrial networking protocols
• Experience with robotics integration, welding automation (arc, laser, resistance), or
machine tooling systems is strongly preferred
• Proven troubleshooting and system-level problem-solving ability
