Controls Designer
Direct Hire | St. Paul, MN | $70k - $90k

Job Summary:
We are seeking a Controls Designer to develop detailed electrical designs and documentation for custom automation systems. This position is responsible for designing control panels, generating electrical schematics, and supporting the engineering and panel build teams using tools such as EPLAN and SolidWorks Electrical.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and document control panels, wiring diagrams, and cable assemblies using EPLAN or SolidWorks Electrical.
• Generate accurate BOMs, terminal plans, panel layouts, and cable schedules.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable standards (UL508A, NEC, NFPA 79).
• Collaborate with Controls Engineers and Panel Builders to ensure accuracy and manufacturability.
• Support redline revisions, change orders, and continuous improvements to design standards.
• Work closely with project managers to meet deadlines and technical requirements.

Qualifications:

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or similar field preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in control systems design for industrial automation.
• Proficiency with EPLAN and/or SolidWorks Electrical.
• Familiarity with PLC/HMI system architecture, industrial components, and safety circuits.
• Strong understanding of electrical standards and best practices in control panel design.
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication.
