Our client, a tier 1 automotive supplier, is seeking a Controls & IT Systems Engineer to support plant operations at their manufacturing facility in Gaffney, SC.
This role is responsible for supporting both operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT), with a strong focus on Siemens PLC programming (TIA Portal) and plant-floor system integration. You will serve as a key technical resource across production and business systems, ensuring reliability, troubleshooting issues, and driving system improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program, troubleshoot, and maintain Siemens PLC systems (TIA Portal, ladder logic, SCL)
- Support plant-floor automation, including HMIs, control panels, and connected devices
- Troubleshoot and support OT systems and communications between production equipment and business systems
- Provide day-to-day support for IT systems, including hardware, software, and end-user environments
- Maintain and support network infrastructure (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Ethernet, Wi-Fi)
- Assist with system integrations (ERP, barcode systems, digital signage, etc.)
- Support system updates, backups, and recovery processes to ensure business continuity
- Coordinate technical activities with Corporate IT, plant leadership, and external vendors
Maintain documentation for systems, changes, and procedures
- Participate in on-call support for production-impacting issues
Qualifications:
- Degree in IT, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong experience with Siemens PLC programming (TIA Portal)
- Hands-on experience in manufacturing / automotive environments
- Ability to troubleshoot across both automation (OT) and IT systems
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and Windows environments
- Strong communication and ability to work cross-functionally
Preferred:
- Experience with HMI systems, industrial networking, or system integrations
- Exposure to ERP systems or SQL-based applications
- Experience supporting servers, backups, or infrastructure
- Familiarity with access control, cameras, or facility systems
