We are seeking a skilled Controls Technician/Engineer to support the design, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of industrial automation equipment. This role will work closely with Production, Quality, and Continuous Improvement teams to optimize equipment performance, reduce downtime, and improve cycle times. The position is primarily plant-floor based and requires hands-on involvement with automation systems and heavy equipment.
Schedule: 2nd Shift, Monday–Friday, starting at 4:00 PM. Standard shift ends at 12:30 AM, with frequent overtime extending to approximately 2:30 AM
Key Responsibilities:
- Design electrical and electronic circuits for industrial equipment
- Program and troubleshoot PLCs, AC/DC drives, and servo drives
- Develop and modify robot programs, PLC logic, and HMI/machine interfaces
- Diagnose and repair equipment issues, including weld controllers, robotics, and PLC systems
- Perform preventative maintenance and support ongoing equipment reliability
- Troubleshoot and resolve downtime issues to minimize production disruptions
- Adjust MIG and spot welding schedules (Medar, Lincoln, Miller, Panasonic controllers)
- Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Continuous Improvement teams to improve efficiency and cycle times
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and legislation (Environmental, O. Reg 851, OHSA)
- Operate and handle heavy industrial equipment safely
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Industrial Controls or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–5 years of experience in a similar role within an industrial/manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of industrial control systems and troubleshooting techniques
- Experience with PLC programming and robotics systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and solve complex technical problems
Work Environment:
- 80% plant floor / 20% office-based work
- Frequent exposure to industrial equipment (PPE required)
- Regular handling of heavy operational equipment
