Job Summary
Convergent Dental is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to assist with the development and growth of its Solea laser system. This position will report directly to the Principal Mechanical Engineer. The ideal candidate has worked in the medical device space and has experience with product design in a regulated environment. We are looking for a naturally collaborative person who can thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Work within our multi-disciplinary team to define, design, build, and test new products across the lifecycle from conception to production
Generate working prototypes for alpha and beta testing, owning the architectural layout and detailed metal and plastic component design
Support evaluating and characterizing optical elements, components, and fixtures. Modeling, prototyping, evaluating, and characterizing optical elements and mounts for next generation optical systems
Optimize human factors of system, ensuring superior user experience
Produce engineering calculations to support design work
Create and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications
Support manufacturing engineering as necessary and provide appropriate tools and techniques to the service organization
Work closely with internal manufacturing team, vendors, and contract manufacturers to ensure successful design transfer to production
Adhere to best practices for documentation
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering; Masters preferred
7+ years hands-on design experience in product design and development in related field
Firm grasp of engineering concepts, especially pertaining to the design of opto-mechanical systems
Strong CAD background, Solidworks preferred
Knowledge of GD&T including True Position methods, and drawing creation per ASME Y14.5
Familiarity with production processes such as machining, injection molding, and sheet metal as well as prototyping techniques such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and urethane casting
Experience in human-centered design and usability engineering
Understanding of medical device manufacturing process and DFM, DFA
Proficient with laboratory instrumentation
Key Skills
Deep experience in medical device product design and development with a proven track record of success
Strong understanding of engineering operations including process development, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, sourcing, and production
Knowledge of quality and regulatory requirements guiding medical device development, plus experience dealing with regulatory agencies or outside professional groups (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485 Standards)
Strategic long term & short term thinking, ability to multitask with a sense of urgency
Self-starter capable of delivering quality output on schedule
