    Job Description

    This person will be the key leader preparing the Café for opening. The Café Manager will assist with the aesthetic design of the Café, help establish the Café team, and travel to the franchise headquarters for an initial training and immersion experience. Once the Café opens, the Café Manager will be responsible for overseeing all Café operations including: ordering, menu planning and preparation, managing and scheduling Café employees, as well as ensuring all health and safety standards are being met. This person will fully manage the operations of the Museum Café while also collaborating heavily with the Museum as a whole to ensure continuity of experience for guests.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Lead the effort to create an experience through the Café at the Cook Museum of Natural Science that supports the mission of the museum and ensures guest satisfaction
    • Serve as an ambassador of the Museum and the Café both internally and externally. As an ambassador for the Museum, this person must be fully knowledgeable of the Museum's programs and offerings to engage confidently with guests. As an ambassador for the Café, this person will proactively learn from the franchise and share enthusiastically about the Café offerings as they train Café employees, and engage with Museum employees, patrons, and the general public.
    • Contribute to any remaining decisions for the aesthetic development of the Café to ensure a clean, comfortable and positive guest experience
    • Attend immersion training at the franchise headquarters to ensure quality and consistency. Become a brand ambassador and lead the effort to adopt best practices for this concept and instill that training in the team at the Museum’s Café
    • Assist in the development of the marketing strategy for the cobranded Museum and Café
    • Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures for the Café 
    • Establish and lead a team of part time employees: write job descriptions, recruit, interview, hire, and train team members. Cast-vision, set goals, coach and provide feedback to ensure a quality guest experience at the Café
    • Fully manage the operations side of the Café by ordering, scheduling for productivity, using sales numbers to promote and market Café menu items, ensuring a clean and safe work environment, serving fresh, crave-worthy food, and attending to guest needs
    • Lead by example as a working manager, not as a clipboard-style manager. This leader will be active out on the floor with the team leading them to provide the best customer experience, helping to keep the line moving and jumping in to help wherever needed to ensure that the team and the guests are happy. 
    • Master the Point of Sale System Siriusware® and train employees to use it to ensure smooth daily operations, accurate capture of data, inform purchasing/reordering, and facilitate excellent customer service
    • Oversee Café financials including cash management, end of day reports, and cash reconciliation
    • Maintain the appearance of the Café, ensuring appropriate for standards as directed by the franchise operation in concert with the Museum; including signage, a la carte food merchandising, and cleanliness, with organized and visually appealing presentation
    • Assist wherever needed and in any reasonable capacity to ensure the smooth and successful operation of the Museum in the case of emergency drill or other “all hands” activity
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • 2+ years of Restaurant Management/Restaurant General Management experience or equivalent experience in a related field. Catering experience is a plus 
    • Passion for servant leadership and customer service, naturally engages with people of all ages
    • Highly motivated and collaborative team player who can also work independently and with initiative 
    • Enjoys a culture of both playfulness and professionalism and is passionate about carrying out the mission of the Museum
    • Previous Café management experience that demonstrates candidate is adept in retail cash handling, operating point of sale systems, visual merchandising, and customer service
    • Experience controlling food and labor costs
    • Proven organizational, time-management, and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated ability to multitask, problem solve, and communicate effectively 
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft® Office Suite and willingness to learn other programs as needed
    • Excellent and frequent communication with team and leadership
    • Positive, high-energy, welcoming, outgoing and detail oriented

    Additional Information

    SCHEDULE 

    The work schedule for this role leading up to the Café opening will generally be Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Once the Café opens, The Café Manager can expect to work approximately 40 hours a week and share manager responsibilities during operational hours with the Café Assistant Manager. The Café Manager will need to be able to work a flexible schedule with a normal weekly schedule being Wednesday-Sunday, some evenings and special events will also be required. Candidates will need to live in the Decatur/Huntsville area or live within a reasonable, commutable distance of the museum.
