The Glen Retirement System is seeking a full-time Cook team member for split shift 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday (off Sundays and Tuesdays)
Must be willing to work in a team environment, have 2-3 years’ experience as a cook in a restaurant or healthcare, ability to cook from scratch in accordance with standardized recipes, cook in large quantities and follow proper food handling protocols.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Prepares food ensuring it is nutritious, properly flavored for residents in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations. Meet meal schedules and avoid food waste.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepares various entrees and menu items, serves foods according to cycle menus and recipes, at correct temperatures and in an attractive manner.
Responsible for handling and preparation of food in accordance with sanitary regulations.
Uses production guides and standardized recipes.
Operates and cleans equipment per department procedures after each use and schedule routine cleaning.
Assist in proper labeling, dating and rotation of all food items according to policy. Assists in maintaining organized storage of dry goods, refrigerated and frozen products.
Assist Executive Chef in accurate counting of food, supplies and equipment needs.
Assist in cooking, preparation and service for food for special events when required.
Plan and initiate cooking schedule for food preparation to meet meal schedule.
Ensures with direction from Executive Chef appropriate portioned servings according to portion control standards.
Taste and smell food to determine quality and palatability.
Ensure correct food temperature is maintained prior to plating or steam table transfer.
Assists in setting up and filling meal trays and steam table.
Responsible for washing, drying and putting away pots and pans after each meal.
Empties and cleans steam table wells each shift including cooktop, oven and grills.
Ensures kitchen cleanliness at end of shift.
Assures that inventory requirements for next day’s meal are present and pulls products for thawing as needed.
In absence of Dietary Assistant, checks the sanitizer and records findings and checks food temperatures and records findings.
Knows and follows all safety and sanitation procedures.
Assist in the cross training of employees as required by Hospitality Manager.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute recipe conversions, purchases vs. served, and pan yields.
Other related projects, duties and responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Must be people-oriented individual, have good communication skills, and the ability to work with a diverse group of people.
Must be able to work overtime as required.
Well organized and self-motivated.
High School education or GED preferred.
ServSafe training as required.
Working knowledge of food handling, preparation, production, standard kitchen equipment, food safety and sanitation.
Ability to read, speak, write and follow oral and written directions.
Willing to work flexible hours
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to fulfill job requirements in a high-energy, high-traffic area.
Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds; push/pull up to 90 pounds.
Extensive standing, walking, stooping, lifting, reaching
Must have corrected vision and visual acuity for color discrimination and examining of cooked and stored foods.
Must have taste and smell discrimination to determine nutritional quality and palatability of foods.
Must be able to work in warm, humid environment with sudden temperature changes when entering freezer or refrigerator
Must be able to safely work with cleaning chemicals
