Cool Shul is a small, progressive community that specializes in working with families who are interfaith or who are not comfortable in more traditional synagogue settings. We teach experiential education with an open mind, and allow our students to discover how to express their Jewishness and do NOT teach rules. They are encouraged to find their own answers to the deepest questions. We are sadly losing our long-time teacher to a dream job, and are now looking for one or more people to fulfill the following roles: 1. Co-teaching with our spiritual leader two Sunday mornings per month, possibly eventually taking over the class, for mixed ages, grades 1-6. We teach Jewish studies and Hebrew letters. Ability to manage art projects and to think creatively is a plus. 2. Co-teaching with our spiritual leader two Wednesday evenings per month, possibly eventually taking over the class, for a mixed age class, 8th-11th grades, some Judaic learning and youth group activities. We learn a little modern Hebrew and some are still preparing for B-Mitzvah. Experience working with teens is a plus. 3. Tuesday afternoons, co-teaching B-Mitzvah students under the guidance of our spiritual leader. Familiarity with a Reform prayer book is a plus. It is much more essential to have a great attitude and enjoy working with children than to be a Judaic expert. However, you must know Hebrew letters and basic Reform style prayers in order to help the children learn.
