    Job Description

    EXPERIENCED TAX PREPARER

    OVERVIEW

We are a local accounting firm in Temecula who engages with closely held businesses (S corporations, Partnerships, LLCs. Nonprofits, Fiduciary, Estates), other organizations, and individuals. Our approach is consultative with a strong emphasis on planning. Our firm offers a variety of tax, accounting and other business services.

We are looking for a tax return preparer with demonstrated experience in tax return preparation, strong business acumen, and a willingness to work hard as part of a team.

    SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

    • 10+ years of experience preparing forms 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, and 1041. Bonus points for experience with fiduciary, gift tax, and other returns.
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business-related field preferred.
    • CPA or EA License

    JOB DUTIES - TECHNICAL

    • QuickBooks proficient – must be able to clean up accounts, generate financial statements, prepare a tax return and provide journal entries back to the client.
    • Software - Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Adobe PDF software proficiency required. Lacerte experience strongly preferred.
    • Common sense materiality/flexibility – You must be able to quickly determine materiality, and willing to accept less than desirable data from the client. We are not here to criticize the client for having negative balance sheet accounts or shame them for keeping less than perfect books. But, we are here to prepare the best tax return possible. You need to be flexible, willing, and able to move around on this spectrum depending on the presented factors, risks, and materiality.
    • Excel – spreadsheets are often only meaningful to the spreadsheet designer. You need to be able to generate a workpaper that someone else can follow without handholding or explanation.
    • Ability to understand and fulfill oral and written directions. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Demonstrated prioritization skills and persistence.

    HUMAN RESOURCES

Our tax return preparers possess the following qualities:

    • Playful – We enjoy a laugh and lunch break. We take the work we do seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.
    • Sense of urgency – If it can be done today, get it done today. We like to have fun but when there is a stack of files on your desk and a deadline looming, you need to focus, prioritize and move files while maintaining accuracy, customer service and good attitude.
    • Approachable – You must be able to take constructive criticism as a learning opportunity. As accountants our job is to look for things that are wrong and fix them. If you are only looking for kudos this will be a tough environment. If you are a professional wanting to hone your craft you will fit right in. We all want to continually improve.
    • Sense of discernment – Be realistic about what you know and what you have yet to learn. We work quickly and accurately. We ask questions and are respectful of others' time. You will want to do the same.
    • Procedure oriented – We have created processes, procedures, and checklists. While we appreciate your individuality we need you to embrace standard operating procedures.
