    Job Description

    PURPOSE/GOALS

    The Facility Engineering and Maintenance Manager will manage and assist in the completion of the day-to-day activities, involving the maintenance of the building/facility, equipment and machinery including HVAC, building lighting systems, production lines, grounds keeping, and overall facility appearance. Manage and coordinate the work of employees who repair and maintain building/facility, equipment, and machinery. Oversee engineering, design and installation phases of new equipment, line upgrades, and other capital projects. Manage the preventative/predictive maintenance and Maintenance Work Order Systems. Able to create and manage budgets related to facility, repair, and labor. Work with Cornerstone’s Core Values in mind: Safety, Integrity, Innovation and Teamwork. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Supervise and directs purchasing functions such as product/service research, vendor selection, price and contract terms, negotiation, purchase order completion, etc.
    • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing results, completing projects and training technicians.
    • Draft bid specifications, request bid proposals from vendors and administers contracts for major purchases.
    • Research product market information relating to equipment, raw material, and supply purchases. Ensure stockroom inventory levels are maintained to adequately meet operational needs, order replacement goods, and coordinate organization of stocked items.
    • Maintain operating files of departmental information and prepare related reports.
    • Prepare budget estimates and monitor departmental expenditures.
    • Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.
    • Lead the maintenance and facility engineering efforts such that the plant’s short- and long-term objectives and applicable metrics are met.
    • Under the leadership guidance of the Plant Manager, develops the capital plan for the facility within the final agreed upon budget. Also, ensures the project justifications are accurate and within corporate guidelines.
    • Collaborates with the Corporate Engineering Director and the other plants’ Maintenance Engineers to ensure best practices are being shared and implemented between sites, resulting in each plant not needing to reinvent each new idea. Also, to ensure new concepts and technology are being explored and utilized appropriately.
    • In cooperation with the EHS Manager, ensure that the plant’s local, state and federal environmental, operating and construction permits are in order and completed in a timely manner. This should result in no non-compliance issues or projects delayed due to timeliness of permitting.
    • Lead maintenance operations by initiating, coordinating and enforcing operational and personnel policies and procedures.
    • Assist with QC issues to help determine root cause and to identify solutions for improvement.
    • Protect associates and visitors by maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
    • Act as Chairman of the Safety Committee.
    • Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components.
    • Maintains system, facility, equipment, tooling, and product data bases by writing computer programs / drawings.
    • Evaluates mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs; applying principles of mechanics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials.
    • Designs mechanical and electromechanical products and systems based on testing specifications and methods.
    • Design and implement cost-effective equipment modifications required to improve safety, reliability and throughput.
    • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION

    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Business or related degree. Certified PE is preferred.

    EXPERIENCE

    5+ years experience in the engineering/maintenance function; of which, at least seven years’ experience in troubleshooting electrical (through 480 volts), mechanical and pneumatic repairs; and three of which should have been in a supervisory/leadership role.

    SKILLS/ABILITIES

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project) and AutoCAD.
    • Demonstrated competency in process and project management skills.
    • Able to distinguish colors and have correctable eyesight and hearing.
    • Able to lift 50 lbs. and stand, walk, kneel, etc. throughout the work shift.
    • Safety-minded with constant attention to safe practices.
    • Ability to coach, train and mentor all levels of associates.
    • Ability to develop and play a team member role with other plant members.
    • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends, as well as off shift as required.
    • Analytical and mathematical orientation with ability to summarize and present clear and concise reports required.
    • Knowledge of fire sprinkler testing procedures and systems preferred.

    OTHER

    Standard manufacturing plant environment with moderate to heavy exposure to plant dusts, fumes, noise, chemicals, and temperature extremes.
