    Insero Talent Solutions has partnered with a premier general construction company based in Rochester to recruit a Corporate Controller.

    Position Summary:

    The Corporate Controller is a key business partner and financial leader responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting operations across construction projects and entities. As Corporate Controller, you will ensure the integrity of financial reporting, effective internal controls, and efficient treasury operations. The Corporate Controller partners closely with operations, project management, shared service, and executive leadership to deliver accurate, timely, and insightful financial information that supports strategic decision-making.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting:

    • Lead all aspects of general ledger management, consolidation, and month-end/quarter end/year end close processes across multiple entities.
    • Oversee and manage the preparation and review of consolidated financial statements in compliance with GAAP and company policies.
    • Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial information.
    • Ensure the preparation and accuracy of all financial reconciliations.
    • Manage the preparation and completeness of all Joint Venture and subsidiary accounting operations.
    • Preparation of the annual overhead budget and monthly management of overhead spend.
    • Coordinate annual audits and manage relationships with external auditors and tax advisors.
    • Ensure compliance with state, federal, and industry-specific financial regulations.

    Project & Job Cost Accounting:

    • Oversee all project accounting functions, including job cost tracking, billing, revenue recognition, and project margin analysis.
    • Partner with project managers and operations teams to review budgets, forecasts, and performance against plan.
    • Standardize project accounting practices across divisions and subsidiaries to ensure consistency and transparency.
    • Manage Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and ensure accurate percentage-of-completion accounting.
    • Assist CFO in subcontractor pre-qualification.
    • Monitor contract compliance, change orders, and retainage.

    Treasury & Cash Management:

    • Manage corporate treasury operations including cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, bank relationships, and daily banking activities.
    • Oversee all state sales tax reporting and internal allocations such as equipment and insurance.
    • Monitor daily cash positions and intercompany funding between entities.
    • Oversee corporate credit and fuel card program administration.
    • Optimize banking structures and monitor debt covenants and compliance.
    • Support CFO with capital planning, credit facilities, and investment strategies.

    Leadership & Team Development:

    • Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, including corporate and project accounting staff.
    • Establish clear performance expectations, training plans, and professional growth paths.
    • Foster, maintain, and improve collaboration between finance, operations, and share service departments.
    • Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

    Performance Metrics:

    • Accuracy and timeliness of consolidated financial reporting.
    • Audit results and internal control compliance.
    • Project profitability visibility and WIP reporting accuracy.
    • Treasury and cash flow management effectiveness.
    • Employee engagement and team retention within the accounting department.

    General:

    • Responsible for travel as business dictates and ability to accommodate a flexible schedule to meet workload needs.
    • Responsible for performing other responsibilities/duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required, Master’s or MBA preferred.
    • CPA required (active license preferred).
    • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in a senior accounting or controller role with direct reports.
    • Strong background in construction industry accounting with exposure to multi-entity structures and project-based accounting.
    • Experience managing consolidated financial and intercompany transactions.
    • Proven expertise in GAAP compliance, WIP accounting, and treasury management.
    • Hands-on experience with ERP systems.
    • Deep understanding of construction job costing, revenue recognition, and project performance metrics.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with both finance and operations teams.
    • Strategic thinker with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities.

  • Compensation
    $160,000-$215,000 per year
