    School-Based Therapist

    The Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CADA) is hiring for Mental Health Therapist for school-based positions at high schools in Lompoc.

    These positions are valuable training for those interested in doing one-on-one counseling and psychotherapy with children and youth. School Based Therapists receive training and experience in assessment, treatment planning, diagnosis, direct one-on-one psychotherapy, case management, family therapy, and appropriate documentation of those services.

    The work coincides with the school schedule (must be Monday-Friday between 7:30-4:30pm)

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    · AMFT, ASW, (Registered Associate) or 2nd year practicum

    · Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work or equivalent (in-process considered)

    · Professional verbal and written communication skills

    · Knowledge of individual family and group counseling principles and techniques

    · Experience providing individual and group counseling preferred

    · Actively in Practicum at either Antioch University or UMass Global University

    · Experience working in schools or with youth preferred

    · Bilingual, bicultural preferred

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    · Work with school staff, school administration, and CADA management to identify and engage youth and families in the school-based counseling program

    · Identify high-risk children/families that have high probability of developing emotional/behavioral problems

    · Assist clients in developing behavioral skills for resisting social influences that promote high-risk behaviors through direct instruction, modeling, rehearsal, coaching, and reinforcement

    · Assist clients in developing necessary skills that may enable them to avoid high-risk behaviors and increase school success

    · Provide counseling services to clients exhibiting emotional problems

    · Provide support services to families of clients, such as family counseling or instruction in parenting skills

    · Provide counseling services via telehealth methods (if applicable)

    · Assess the family system, family dynamics and needs of the family for support services and assist with linking them to appropriate resources

    · Attend school team meetings as they relate to the high-risk children/families on caseload (and at request/determination of principal)

    · Conduct classroom presentations as requested and as possible

    · Communicate regularly with supervisor including submitting reports as requested and checking and responding to email

    · Attend the requisite numbers of units of supervision as required by the Board of Behavioral Sciences and as set forth by CADA

    · Maintain an active caseload equal to or greater than ½ of the number of hours regularly scheduled to work in a work week

    · Communicate regularly and work collaboratively with the school-based support team (including school principal, school psychologist, teacher, family advocate, and outreach)

    · Provide training, classroom observation and consultation to teachers, principals, and other school personnel to increase understanding and identification of mental health issues

    · Maintain case records, statistical reports and complete data entry for all program related activities and services; complete/submit documentation in a timely manner

    · Attend weekly, one-hour meetings and trainings at request of your mentor

    This is a full-time position (30-40hrs/wk)

    Salary Range: $25.00-$30.00 dependent on qualifications and experience.

    Rate increase for Bilingual (Spanish/English) with relevant training/experience

    Benefits include:

    · Paid time off (vacation, holiday, and sick, prorated for part-time)

    · Paid clinical supervision (group & triad) provided. Hours can be counted toward BBS licensure requirements

    · $500 self-care allowance that can be applied to gym memberships, etc. (prorated for part-time)

    · $50/week commuting stipend for those driving over 25 miles per day round trip, and $100/week for those driving 50 miles or more per day round trip for full time employees (prorated for part time)
