    Director of Development

    The Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CADA) is seeking a dynamic Director of Development to join its Senior Management Team in downtown Santa Barbara. This is a unique position with the county’s leading provider of life-changing treatment and services for children, teens, adults, and families struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health conditions. Founded in 1949, CADA is a progressive, culturally sensitive, and highly respected organization for its commitment to helping clients find their own personal path to recovery and lead positive, productive lives that strengthen families and our community.

    This senior position reports to CADA’s Executive Director Scott Whiteley, PhD; supervises the Special Events and Social Media Coordinator; and collaborates closely with the Donor Database Coordinator, Finance, Marketing, the Grant Writer, and especially the Director of Special Gifts (who is focused on CADA’s Comprehensive Fundraising Campaign).

    The successful candidate will be encouraged to introduce new and innovative fundraising ideas and methods to CADA as they focus on increasing annual donor contributions across Santa Barbara County. They will …

    • Create an Annual Development Plan that includes fundraising strategies, tactics, and date-specific goals and other deliverables

    • Plan and execute major fundraising events

    • Direct the agency’s Annual Appeal solicitation

    • Maintain and track a portfolio of current donors; nurture/grow those relationships

    • Cultivate new donors

    • Identify opportunities for financial support through grants and sponsorships

    • Develop a robust calendar for their community outreach and engagement, and for other members of Senior Management as appropriate

    • Oversee Donor Perfect, the agency’s selected donor management software

    • Maintain accurate accounting of all events, campaigns, and unrestricted income and its source

    • Work closely with Finance to guide fundraising-related decisions

    • Work closely with Marketing to ensure donor acknowledgement and identify opportunities to share the CADA story with the community

    CADA’s new Development Director will …

    • Have a minimum five years’ experience within a successful nonprofit Development Team

    • Hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher)

    • Possess exceptional people skills, with the proven ability to build lasting relationships with diverse populations

    • Demonstrate excellent communications skills (verbal, written, and public peaking)

    • Be organized, able to prioritize and manage multiple projects, analyze and solve complex situations, and exercise sound judgment

    • Be highly goal driven

    • Have a strong sense of integrity

    • Embrace CADA’s mission and culturally sensitive workplace

    This is a full-time, exempt (salaried) position. Benefits include health, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement contribution, and paid time off (vacation, sick, holiday). Salary range $85,280 - $104,000, dependent on qualifications.
