    TITLE: School-Based Therapist- North County

    ORGANIZATION: Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse

    REPORTS TO: Manager School Service, North County

    CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

    LOCATION: Lompoc Unified School District (LUSD), and/or Santa Maria Bonita School District (SMBSD)

    Qualifications:

    • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or equivalent (in-process considered)

    • Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (MFT), LCSW, Registered Associate or equivalent

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills

    • Knowledge of individual family and group counseling principles and techniques

    • Experience providing individual and group counseling

    • Experience working in schools or with youth preferred

    • Bilingual, bicultural preferred

    • AOD Certification and/or training preferred

    Responsibilities:

    • Work with school staff and administration and CADA management to identify and engage youth and families in the school-based counseling program

    • Identify high-risk children/families that have high probability of developing emotional/behavioral problems

    • Assist clients in developing behavioral skills for resisting social influences that promote high-risk behaviors through direct instruction, modeling, rehearsal, coaching, and reinforcement

    • Assist clients in developing necessary skills that may enable them to avoid high-risk behaviors and increase school success

    • Provide counseling services to clients exhibiting emotional or behavioral problems

    • Provide support services to families of clients, such as family counseling or instruction in parenting skills

    • Assess the family system, family dynamics and needs of the family for support services and assist with linking them to appropriate resources

    • Attend school team meetings as they relate to the high risk children/families on caseload (and at request/determination of principal)

    • Conduct classroom presentations as requested and as possible

    • Communicate regularly with supervisor including submitting reports as requested and checking and responding to email

    • Attend the requisite numbers of units of supervision as required by the Board of Behavioral Sciences and as set forth by CADA

    • Maintain an active caseload equal to or greater than ½ of the number of hours regularly scheduled to work in a work week

    • Communicate regularly and work collaboratively with the school-based support team (including school principal, school psychologist, teacher, family advocate, and outreach)

    • Provide training, classroom observation and consultation to teachers, principals, and other school personnel in order to increase understanding and identification of mental health issues, and to support teachers in classroom management

    • Maintain case records, statistical reports and complete data entry for all program related activities and services; complete/submit in a timely manner

    • Responsible for timely and appropriate client file documentation

    • Attend meetings and trainings at request of management

    • Perform other duties as assigned

    • Document all service activities in a timely manner (within 48 hours of service delivery)Applicants must be vaccinated for Covid and boostered. These positions require in-person services.
