Retail Counter Sales & Cashier - Hardware Store
O’Neill, NE
Our client is a respected, family-owned lumberyard and hardware store that has been serving Nebraska communities for generations. They combine small-town values with professional systems—helping builders, contractors, and DIYers source the right lumber, paint, hardware, and building materials with confidence.
This Counter Sales role is perfect for someone who has a background in high-touch customer service—whether in retail, hospitality, or a similar fast-paced environment—and enjoys being the "go-to" person for walk-in traffic. If you are a reliable professional who takes pride in helping people and wants to work in a stable, community-focused environment, this is the role for you!
Does This Sound Like You?
Friendly and Approachable: You are confident working face-to-face with the public and enjoy building rapport with regular customers.
Detail-Oriented: You take pride in getting orders right and handling transactions accurately.
Calm Under Pressure: You can juggle walk-in customers, phone calls, and tasks at the counter without losing your cool.
Reliable: You understand that being a key member of a small-town team means showing up and being dependable for your coworkers and customers.
What We’d Love To See:
Customer Service Experience: Previous experience in retail, bartending, serving, or a similar role where you managed customer needs and handled transactions.
A Professional Work History: We are looking for individuals with a solid work ethic who are looking for a long-term home, not an entry-level or "first job" applicant.
Interest in the Industry: You don’t need to be a construction expert, but you must have a strong willingness to learn about building materials, hardware, and home improvement products.
Physical Ability: You are comfortable being on your feet all day and are comfortable lifting things up to 30 pounds.
What You’ll Get To Do:
Serve as the Face of the Store: Greet every customer who walks in and provide helpful, "hometown" service to homeowners and DIYers.
Solve Problems: Assist guests with questions regarding merchandise, pricing, and the right tools for their specific projects.
Manage the Counter: Accurately process sales, returns, and special orders using the Point of Sale (POS) system while maintaining a clean and professional showroom.
Grow (Optional): For those interested in advancement, this role offers the opportunity to train and develop the skills needed to move into a Builder/Contractor sales role within 1–3 years.
What They Offer:
Stability: A long-standing, family-owned business where you aren’t just a number.
Comprehensive Benefits: A competitive package including Health, Dental, and Vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid holidays, paid time off, and sick pay.
Investment in You: Our client provides the training you need to master their product lines and grow your career within the building materials industry.
