    DESCRIPTION

    Under general supervision, to develop, maintain, and coordinate the communications program for the Alameda County Assessor's Office; to advise and assist management in communications activities; to represent the Assessor's Office to regional and County commissions, boards and agencies, community groups and organizations, and citizens of the County; to explain and interpret Assessor's Office policy and processes to citizen of Alameda County; and to perform related duties as required.

     

    DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

    These positions are located in the Assessor's Office. Assessor's Communications Coordinators are responsible for a departmental or agency communications program and outreach. This classification will be responsible for creating all the public written communications that will be disseminated to internal and external stakeholders regarding services rendered by the Assessor's Office. It will also be responsible for community outreach and individual services. 

     

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

     

    1. Contacts media representatives and arranges for exposure or explains activities; responds to questions directed to the department/agency.

    2. Acts as editor of departmental publications and newsletters; provides assistance to others in preparation of publications, website development, newsletters, and related matters.

    3. Serves as a staff writer available to assist in writing applications for grants and projects.

    4. Represents the department before civic and community groups in disseminating public information.

    5. Prepares annual reports, monthly newsletters, and media correspondence.

    6. As assigned, represents the Assessor's Office to citizens, community groups and organizations.

    7. Deals with questions from citizens and complaints relating to the Assessor's office. Receives and reviews correspondence, evaluates citizens' suggestions and complaints, and responds.

    8. Prepares reports and analyses on legislation and legislative programs of interest to the Assessor.

    9. Prepares reports and analyses of proposed programs, with particular emphasis upon the impact of such programs upon Alameda County.

    10. Arranges for and conducts meetings with constituents and County staff in pursuit of duties of the Assessor.

    11. Represents the Assessor's Office at meetings in or out of the County, as necessary.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related social science field.

     

    OR

     

    Experience:

    One year of full-time experience in communications, public and/or client relations position which involved developing and maintaining external relationships.

     

    Special Requirement:

     

    Incumbents may be required to attend meetings and events in the evenings and/or on weekends.
