Courtney Construction, Inc. is a high-end general construction company that has successfully operated in the San Gabriel Valley and beyond for over 30 years. We are currently looking for the right motivated person to take on the challenges of the FULL-TIME ACCOUNITNG POSITION and embrace the technology that drives our business.
Candidate must be highly detail-oriented with thorough hands on accounting and bookkeeping experience.
You must have the ability to maintain multiple customer accounts. You will manage day to day internal operations from our office. You will be expected to deliver reliable information quickly and accurately enabling the owners to make important business decisions. Success in this role will require someone who is currently adept in computer driven business management software including accounting programs, Adobe Acrobat, Excel and Microsoft Office. You must be comfortable working directly with the owners and key employees in a small office environment and be willing to manage other aspects of day to day business operations.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Accounts Payable. This includes collecting and entering all receipts from vendors and employees as well as tracking invoices from vendors and all aspects of business expenses. Code and process invoices to accurately reflect job costs. Manage Lien Releases for payments under Subcontracts.
- Accounts Receivable. This includes completing and submitting Schedule of Values, tracking Change Orders and invoicing per client’s specifications. Generate, edit and track invoices and documentation for high volume of complex invoices in compliance with contract requirements. Collection and management of Lien Waivers for billings.
- Setup and maintain all documents related to construction projects. Review and execute client Contracts and Change Orders.
- Payroll. This consists of verifying hours from employees in an online time tracking software and transferring to our accounting program. Weekly payroll Federal and State tax deposits.
- Monthly W/C reporting.
- Participate in internal audits, as well as external audits including , Insurance, OCIPs, IRS, Sales and Use Tax, Property Tax, etc.
- Prepare and deliver thorough and accurate journal entries, reports and supporting documents to CPA.
- Download bank feeds and perform regular reconciliation of all transactions including checks, online transactions, credit cards, vendor accounts and credit line.
- Keep track of and maintain quarterly, and year-end payroll tax payments.
- Monthly, quarterly, and year-end close procedures and prepare monthly/quarterly/annual reports
- Monitor and preparing supporting documents for tax payments, business licenses and corporate taxes.
- Ensure the confidentiality of all Company records and documents.
- Communicate directly with employees, sub contractors, suppliers, and vendors, via phone and email.
- Research and resolve accounting errors and discrepancies, including monthly reconciliation.
- Assist with special projects as necessary.
Preferred Skills
- Requires 5+ years of accounting experience.
- Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting methods specific to the construction industry.
- Adobe Acrobat, Excel, Microsoft Office, and Outlook. Sage 100 Contractor is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills – both oral and written
- Must have the ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously in an accurate and timely manner.
- Self-motivated with a high level of attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize demands and meet deadlines. Must work well and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to thrive and be highly effective in a small office work environment.

- 10 Days PTO per year after first year. 5 days PTO per year after first 6 months.
Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm (flexible with start/stop time for 8 hours per day between 7am – 5:30pm, but must be consistent and request change once established)
