    Company Description

Founded in 1995, Covenant House Greater Washington (CHGW) is an independent 501 (c) (3) affiliate of Covenant House International, the nation’s largest nonprofit organization responding to the needs of homeless disconnected and exploited young people. CHGW began serving homeless youth from a storefront in Ward 8, Southeast Washington, D.C. in 1995. Today, we have grown significantly and expanded our programs and services to include not only housing but also wrap-around supportive services. For 25 years, CHGW has served as a lifeline for more than 54,000 youth, between the ages of 18 and 24, across Greater Washington. Covenant House Greater Washington’s mission is to empower, safeguard and serve homeless, disconnected, and exploited young people in the Greater Washington region with housing, education, wrap-around support services, workforce readiness training and job placement support to help them get back and stay on track. All CHGW serve our young people with absolute love and respect. Our work is guided by five principles: Immediacy: CHGW immediately meets the basic needs of young people experiencing homelessness through a nourishing meal, a shower, clean clothes, and a safe place to sleep. Sanctuary: CHGW provides a safe haven from the hardships of homelessness. We recognize the fundamental worth of every human being, and create a safe setting where all young people – regardless of life experience or identity – are served without judgement. Value Communication: CHGW leads by example to demonstrate that caring relationships are based on love, trust, respect, and honesty. Structure: CHGW provides stability and structure necessary to build a positive future. Choice: CHGW fosters confidence, encouraging young people to believe in themselves and make informed choices for their lives. CHGW is a diverse family of dedicated, warm, accomplished and talented staff and volunteers who believe that the connection to education, workforce training and job placement will increase future income earnings capability as one way to address challenges faced by these young people.
