    Covia is looking for a dynamic PLANT SUPERINTENDENT who will have a positive impact on the team at our Hephzibah, GA Location. As the Plant Superintendent, you will administer and control all plant operating activities. You will provide customers with quality products at the lowest optimum cost consistent with Corporative objective son time in a timely manner. You will with supervisors to coordinate work executing plans and achieving goals for location profitability.  You will also satisfy all local, state, and federal requirements regarding operations, including but no limited to health and safety and environmental matters.

     

     

     

     

    THE SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENT WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Direct and schedule all plant activities to assure shipments are made on time and meet quality requirements;
    • Oversee and supervise the activities of staff, including production, on the job training and labor relations, to achieve efficient utilization of manpower, materials, and facilities;
    • Partner with Health and Safety Supervisor to oversee safety training, plant housekeeping, and ensure compliance with all health and safety policies and regulations;
    • Maintain open communications with superiors and subordinates to coordinate and delegate appropriately among employees and departments;
    • Review production costs and product quality with subordinates, initiate programs as applicable while adhering to standards;
    • Use the philosophy and techniques of continuous improvement, initiate programs to improve quality, eliminate waste, decrease costs, and improve productivity and other efficiencies;
    • Recommend changes in standards, work methods, equipment, and process modifications to improve performance, productivity, and profitability;
    • Advise the Plant Manager of all current or potential problems, including but not limited to employees, equipment, transportation, quality, and raw materials;
    • Collect, review, and forward necessary labor and or operating data for all required reports;
    • Perform all required functions within the ERP System and control system;
    • Ensure maximum production rate is achieved and initiate trouble shooting efforts to correct issues by identifying root cause;
    • Inspect records from operating departments, such as mill sheets, mobile equipment inspections, and pre-shift inspections for proper completion and request repair work if needed. Review hourly employee time before submittal ;
    • Direct activity to comply with the operations department responsibilities of the Synthetic Minor Air Permit (i.e. daily stack inspection, weekly walk through, etc.);
    • Fill in for Plant Manager in his/her absence;
    • Perform other duties as required.

     

     

     

     

     

     

    THE SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENT WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree, technical or engineering major strongly preferred;
    • 5+ years of related heavy industry experience required, mining or mineral processing experience strongly preferred;
    • 2+ years of front-line supervisory experience required;
    • Union experience preferred;
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word);
    • Knowledge of PLC based control systems – Allen-Bradley, RS Logix, Wonderware preferred;
    • Experience working in ERP Systems preferred;
    • Pleasant and professional manner;
    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills;
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
