CQ Roll Call is looking for an intern to join the CQ newsroom. The ideal candidate will be a recent college graduate or a rising junior or senior with a reporting or editing background. Candidates who are familiar with public policy and congressional decision-making will be given preference. The internship is full-time and based out of the CQ Roll Call newsroom in downtown Washington, D.C. Though interns have ample opportunity to report from Capitol Hill where they're encouraged to pose questions to senators, congressional representatives and hill staffers. Your duties will consist primarily of reporting and writing -- both for CQ News, the weekly magazine and our social media feeds. This internship would begin in January 2019 and run through May 2019 (some flexibility with dates) Accountabilities In the role you would be expected to: * Perform a range of tasks depending on the newsroomrsquo;s needs in a given semester * Cover committee markups and hearings and attend policy events around town * Conduct legislative research meeting and working with CQ staff members from various departments * Visit Capitol Hillwith one of CQrsquo;s reporters, who will show you the ropes and help younavigate the Capitol complex Experience, skills and professional attributes To succeed in the role you must have: * Work experience or previous internshipinjournalism orgovernment setting is preferred but not required * Good communication skills, both written and oral and an attention to detail * Proficiency in Mircrosoft Office Suite To succeed in the role you will be able to demonstrate: * A profound interest in journalism and/or government * The ability to prioritize and be organized * Creativity and a flexible work style * The ability to be a self starter who can take direction andcontribute ideas
