    The Role

    The Craftsman at Found Rental Co. is a master of their craft and a leader in our fabrication and restoration operations. This role is responsible for repairing, refinishing, and building high-quality furniture and specialty items that uphold the integrity, beauty, and durability of Found’s one-of-a-kind collection.

    As a senior technical leader, the Craftsman sets the standard for quality, safety, and craftsmanship while mentoring apprentices and journeymen. This role requires a hands-on builder who thrives in a fast-paced production environment, takes pride in precision work, and is passionate about preserving and elevating exceptional design.

    The Craftsman is both a problem solver and a teacher — balancing technical execution with leadership, planning, and workshop excellence.

    Key responsibilities:

    CRAFTSMANSHIP & BUILD EXECUTION

    • Repair, refinish, restore, and construct furniture and specialty items using wood, metal, fabric, glass, masonry, and mixed materials
    • Operate carpentry, metalworking, welding, and specialty fabrication tools with expert-level precision and safety
    • Apply fasteners, adhesives, welding, and bonding techniques to ensure long-term durability and structural integrity
    • Take precise measurements, calculate material needs, and execute builds to specification

    TEAM LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT

    • Lead and oversee daily work of journeymen and apprentices
    • Provide hands-on coaching and skills training across all fabrication disciplines
    • Set quality standards and ensure all work meets Found craftsmanship expectations
    • Support the growth and development of future craftspeople

    PROJECT PLANNING & EXECUTION

    • Plan, organize, and schedule production tasks to meet project deadlines
    • Collaborate with production leadership on complex repairs, custom builds, and specialty projects
    • Identify solutions for unique restoration challenges and special inventory needs

    INSPECTIONS & QUALITY CONTROL

    • Inspect inventory to assess repair, restoration, and maintenance needs
    • Ensure all completed pieces meet Found quality, safety, and aesthetic standards
    • Protect the original integrity of antique and specialty pieces

    WORKSHOP & INVENTORY MANAGEMENT

    • Lead 6S audits to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workshop
    • Manage shop supply inventory and coordinate procurement needs
    • Organize daily production workflows for journeymen and apprentices
    • Maintain proper storage, labeling, and material handling standards

    SAFETY & COMPLIANCE

    • Follow all safety protocols and ensure proper PPE usage
    • Enforce safe tool operation and shop procedures
    • Ensure compliance with California labor laws related to breaks and workplace safety

    Qualifications

    • Expert-level craftsmanship in carpentry, furniture repair, metalworking, welding, finishing, and restoration
    • Strong understanding of structural mechanics, physics, and applied forces
    • Exceptional manual dexterity and technical precision
    • Proven leadership experience mentoring and developing junior craftspeople
    • Strong organizational and planning skills
    • High attention to detail with a commitment to premium-quality output
    • Ability to problem-solve and adapt to unique build challenges
    • Physical ability to perform hands-on fabrication work
