    OVERVIEW:  Cramer Fish Sciences (CFS) is a fisheries consulting firm that conducts research and monitoring throughout the Pacific Northwest and California. Our mission is to rigorously apply the scientific method to afford our clients innovative, scientifically robust solutions to address a variety of fisheries and environmental challenges.  The CFS team achieves this through effective and unbiased data collection, insightful analysis and interpretation, and clear communications and publication of results in scientific journals. The Biologist Coordinator provides critical support for the organization by contributing to scientific investigations while also assisting science staff with administrative functions in the office, project coordination and communications, and fisheries field and lab work. This includes office support activities to promote efficiency and organization, meeting coordination and note taking, grant reporting, science data entry, data analysis, literature review, field data collection (fish, habitat, water quality sampling), and equipment procurement.  The split of time between these key functions (office admin/office-based project support/field or lab work) will vary throughout a 40-hour workweek, but will generally be 60% science project work and 40% office  support.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform general biological duties including data entry, data analysis, report writing, and field work.
    • Prepare and organize the upkeep of equipment and supplies needed for field work
    • Perform hands on work which may include water sample collection, fish trapping and tagging, visual estimation techniques (e.g., snorkeling, redd surveys), collecting data on the physical environment (e.g., water quality, channel bathymetry) and taking measurements of individual specimens
    • Support staff with timecard entry, expense reporting, travel/meeting coordination, phones & directing messages, purchasing supplies, and filing
    • Coordinate email distribution lists and draft outreach emails to stakeholders
    • Support interaction with administration office for billing and client related progress reports and subcontractor invoices for grant reporting
    • Research/obtaining technical documents
    • Coordinate environmental permitting
    • Tracking project tasks, timelines, and budgets
    • Supporting interaction with Admin for billing/client reports
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    DESIRED EXPERIENCE

    • Environmental science education and experience including stream ecology, forestry, fisheries, or related field
    • Demonstrated skills in coordinating logistics and administrative functions for office operations
    • Familiarity with IT and ability to learn new skills independently
    • Experience conducting field work and operating equipment utilized in field surveys and studies

    EDUCATION/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   

    • Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries, Forestry, Biology or similar field
    • Basic level proficiency with MS Office Suite
    • Proficient with data entry into software systems, developing graphs and basic data analysis

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Possible long periods of computerized data entry in an office environment
    • Working irregular hours in various kinds of weather and potentially rugged terrain on occasion in order to meet project deadlines
    • Travel field work may require extended travel to remote areas for 2-5 days at a time
    • Must be comfortable working in the aquatic environment including working from a boat platform, wading in rivers and streams
    • Must be able to work effectively in inclement weather in remote locations
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry cross-country, down steep slopes and over rough terrain
