    _Cramer Fish Sciences (CFS) has an immediate opening for a highly experienced CONTROLLER who will be responsible for all accounting functions within the organization including, but not limited to, accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow analysis and the management of accounting and payroll staff.  The Controller works closely with the CFO and human resources to assure HR policies are reflected in payroll processes. This position will also oversee information technology (IT), administrative operations, and policy/government compliance.   The Controller supports the company’s vision and employee shareholder goals by maintaining efficient and compliant policies and procedures, while mitigating company risk.  The Controller will be a member of the Executive Committee (EC), the senior leadership group of CFS. _

     ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES BY FUNCTION:

    Oversight and Direction of Financial & Accounting Activities (Ongoing):

    • Participates in the annual ESOP valuation process with external valuation company.
    • Leads and designs the annual budgeting process with all staff, providing resources, schedules, standards and training.
    • Creates and updates key performance indicators (KPI), bi-weekly and monthly financial reports, income statements, balance sheets, in a timely manner, for the EC, the Board of Directors and employee-owners.
    • Makes financial presentations to various internal and external constituencies.
    • Manages day-to-day relationship with banking and other financial partners
    • Finds cost savings in contracted work and production, vendor/sub-consultant relationships, office operations, and employee management.
    • Provides guidance on financial/business planning, including company expansion, loan and lease payment schedules, optimizing billing rates and business unit work funnels.
    • Documents financial and operational policies and procedures, making periodic updates, as required by changes in the company’s business activities.
    • Reviews and recommends changes to critical software or vendor partnerships to improve accounting processes and integrity.

    Oversight and Direction of Financial & Accounting Activities (Weekly/Monthly):

    • Oversees semi-monthly payroll process.
    • Monitors cash flow needs to ensure timely payment of payables and payroll.
    • Tracks consultant project progress and insures invoicing to clients is timely, accurate and properly reflected in the financial accounting software.
    • Reviews accounting adjustments, invoices and bank deposits for accuracy and compliance with existing policies and procedures; Maintains proper segregation of duties.
    • Manages all A/P & A/R activities.
    • Regularly evaluates staff; Provides performance feedback and training, as appropriate.

    Policy & Compliance:

    • Works directly with CPA advisors to stay current with compliance in tax, accounting and ESOP rules.
    • Identifies all government filing requirements and ensures company remains in compliance. This may include, but is not limited to, business licenses and tax withholdings for all states, oversight of quarterly payroll filings and annual issuance of W-2 and 1099 forms.
    • Provides financial oversight and control of all company expense authorizations to insure staff compliance with company policies.
    • Meets regularly with staff to keep them informed and provide direction to insure that comprehensive internal controls are established and maintained.
    • Manages the company’s fixed asset database and insures that capital expenditure policies are consistently followed.
    • Maintains records of all contractual obligations on behalf of the company.
    • Maintains company insurance policies and reviews coverages on a regular basis to mitigate company risk.

    Benefits Administration:

    • Maintains oversight of benefit related payroll deductions, vendor invoices and compliance.
    • Works closely with human resources in managing the benefits broker and various account relationships associated with retirement plans, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), HSA, health and dental insurance, AD&D policies and other employee benefits.

     

    CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

    • Eight to ten years of finance, accounting, audit and compliance management experience.
    • Full understanding and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
    • Ability to engage both tactically and strategically to support growth of the organization.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively and effectively with all team members, clients and external partners.
    • Accomplished project manager, excelling at setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and leading complex assignments.
    • Able to identify trends in financial data and provide advice through financial analyses.
    • Fulfills objectives independently and is comfortable in a small business environment requiring the completion of diverse tasks.
    • Able to lead and develop administrative staff with the appropriate oversight and direction.
    • Strong interpersonal skills exhibiting a collaborative, flexible, self-starting and respectful demeanor at all times.
    • Excellent verbal, written, analytical and organizational skills, with a keen eye for accuracy and continuous process improvement.
    • Proficient with cloud-based accounting and project management systems, as well as Microsoft Office suite.
    • Demonstrates a strong leadership presence and has prior experience presenting financial materials to a non-financial audience.

    EDUCATION/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
    • 8-10 years of appropriate accounting and/or finance work experience
    • Experience managing operations, payroll, systems, IT & financial services
    • Experience managing complex and multi-disciplinary projects
    • Experience implementing and administering software systems to support organizational changes

    DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

    • MBA, Business Related MS, CPA and/or CMA, a plus
    • Government contracting and audit experience
    • Multi-state operations experience
    • Small business experience
    • ESOP administration experience
    • Strong negotiating skills
    • Experience in a consulting or service organization where billable hours are the primary revenue source
