    BASIC PURPOSE:

    The Accounting Manager has a thorough working knowledge of GAAP, general ledger and financial reporting skills, coupled with solid analytic and interpersonal skills.  The Accounting Manager is responsible for the accurate accounting of the Nurse and Allied Segment’s Business Units’ assets, liabilities, equity, income, expense and statistical accounts by owning and driving the monthly close process. This position will assist in the implementation of Company-wide accounting policies and procedures that reflect industry best-in-class practices to ensure accuracy and timely monthly closes.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   

    • Manage the monthly accounting close for the Nurse and Allied Segment, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures, compliance with U.S. GAAP and adherence to calendar deadlines.
    • Review and approve certain journal entries prepared by Staff and Senior Accountants.
    • Review and approve account reconciliations prepared by Staff and Senior Accountants.
    • Prepare month-end closing packages for Business Units within the Nurse and Allied Segment
    • Prepare Balance Sheet analysis monthly and explain any major fluctuations.
    • Review certain schedules prepared by Staff, Senior Accountants and Supervisors
    • Advise Staff and Senior Accountants regarding the handling of non-routine accounting and reporting transactions.
    • Collaborate with other Corporate and field departments to support the Accounting department’s overall goals and objectives.
    • Proactively identify workflow process improvements / efficiencies.
    • Work with Accounting and Financial Planning & Analysis personnel to prepare for the quarterly operational review meetings, which will entail explaining the results of the business units’ expenses by providing clear and concise explanations of actual results compared to budget, forecast, and prior periods.
    • Assist the VP, Business Unit Controller with non-routine transactions such as: valuations of acquisitions and goodwill annual impairment testing.
    • Ensure compliance with the Company’s SOX program; remediating control deficiencies within areas of responsibilities prior to each year-end.
    • Support the VP, Business Unit Controller with interactions and management of external auditors’ periodic requests for quarterly reviews and annual audits.
    • Assist with US GAAP technical accounting research, which will result in the preparation of technical accounting memos and related analysis in order to support and document managements’ positions taken on certain accounting matters and/or transactions.
    • Encourage Accounting team members to seek continuous improvement in processes and procedures.
    • Must be able to develop successful relationships and partner with individuals within Shared Services, Financial Planning & Analysis and Operational Management
    • Other special projects or tasks as assigned by the VP, Business Unit Controller

    Required Experience

     

    • Must have a thorough knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
    • Minimum of 5 years of accounting work experience, preferably for publicly traded companies with a minimum of 3 years of Big Four Public Accounting
    • CPA/CPA candidate required
    • Great Plains Financial Systems experience, preferred
    • Advanced knowledge of MS Office products, Excel (VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables), Word and PowerPoint
