Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Credit Analyst with experience in subprime credit to assess the creditworthiness of high-risk applicants. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of subprime lending markets, alternative credit data, and risk mitigation strategies to support sound lending decisions. This role requires balancing credit risk with business growth in a high-volume, compliance-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze and evaluate credit data, income documentation, and financial statements of subprime applicants.
Assess risk and make recommendations on lease approvals, modifications, or declines in accordance with company policy and risk appetite.
Utilize alternative credit data sources (e.g., personal and business credit reports, background checks, bank statements) to form credit assessments.
Perform manual underwriting and apply judgment beyond credit scores and standard models.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and internal regulations, including FCRA, ECOA, and fair lending laws.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
2+ years of experience in credit analysis, underwriting, or risk management – preferably in subprime auto, personal, or mortgage lending.
Strong understanding of subprime borrower behavior and associated risk factors.
Proficiency with credit scoring models, underwriting systems, and financial analysis tools.
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Experience with manual underwriting is highly desirable.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with technology tools (Excel, Salesforce, etc.).
Experience in fintech or non-traditional lending environments.
