SUMMARY
This individual is responsible for making ready legal court criminal documents, having all records prepared for prosecuting purposes, evaluate possible problems with files, contact persons to correct or obtain additional information for prosecution, and assist the public with problems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Receive, review and log-in misdemeanor affidavits.
- Evaluate charges for acceptance or rejection and process files. Confirm promise to appear and/or bond information.
- Sort, organize and assign court dates, coordinating with various laws enforcement agencies.
- Input affidavit details into computer system, typing legal "TO WIT" on each new charge. Separate originals from copies, create file jackets and assemble files for court.
- Compile criminal docket with offender and charge information.
- Confirm statute titles, number, and offender identify; identify, locate and pull all additional pending matters for each offender; confirm validity of outstanding warrants.
- Identify offenders in jail; compile prisoner docket; coordinate prisoner transport to court; organize data in conjunction with Marshal's office for non-prisoner additions to the docket.
- Identify charges which require amendment, dismissal or continuance motions.
- Review docket for changes within 12 hours of com1 and the morning of court; prepare add-ons.
- Compile disposition on each offender's charge; after court and reassign files to prefix date.
- Announce arraignment docket in absence of prosecutor, and assist in court procedure when necessary.
- Perform in all other staff positions as required.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Typing skills.
Ability to deal with the general public effectively.
Knowledge of word/data processing software programs. Knowledge of the stages of criminal prosecution.
Knowledge of Code of Criminal Procedure.
Ability discriminate between misdemeanor & felonies; crimes against the person; crimes against property; status crimes.
Knowledge of elements of crimes.
Ability to handle deadline related stress.
Ability to analyze data, identify deficiencies independently, generating resolutions and troubleshoot until resolved.
Regular prompt attendance is an essential function to this position.
The ability to get along and promote a harmonious working environment with vendors, supervisors, citizens, and co-workers is an essential function of this position.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred, High School diploma or GED required. Six months to one year related experience and/or training required; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License.
