We are seeking an experienced Senior Criminal Attorney to join our Madison-based client. The ideal candidate is a seasoned litigator with deep knowledge of Wisconsin criminal law, strong courtroom presence, and a demonstrated ability to manage complex cases from investigation through trial and appeal. This role requires excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, and a commitment to delivering high-quality representation to individuals facing criminal charges in Dane County and surrounding jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients in felony and misdemeanor criminal matters , including violent crimes, OWI/DUIs, narcotics offenses, white-collar crimes, property crimes, and post-conviction proceedings.
- Handle all stages of litigation: client intake, investigation, discovery review, motion practice, plea negotiations, trial, and sentencing.
- Manage a full caseload while providing mentorship and oversight to junior attorneys, paralegals, and support staff.
- Develop effective case strategies grounded in Wisconsin statutes, precedent, and local court procedures.
- Conduct legal research and draft motions, briefs, and other court filings.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, opposing counsel, investigators, expert witnesses, and the Dane County court system.
- Represent clients in Dane County Circuit Court , Wisconsin Court of Appeals, and, where appropriate, federal court.
- Participate in firm strategy, business development, and community outreach initiatives.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in Wisconsin (in good standing).
- 3+ years of criminal defense experience , preferably with trial experience in Wisconsin courts.
- Proven track record of successfully handling complex criminal cases.
- Strong negotiation, litigation, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and client management abilities.
- Familiarity with Dane County court procedures and Wisconsin criminal statutes required.
Preferred Skills
- Background handling high-profile or serious felony cases.
- Expertise in forensic evidence, digital evidence, or expert witness coordination.
- Spanish or other language proficiency (not required but beneficial).
