We're looking for an organized, detail-oriented, and experienced paralegal to play an important role on our legal team. You'll draft legal documents such as affidavits, prepare briefs, conduct legal research for trial preparation, and keep case files and other important information neatly organized and easily accessible. Responsibilities: • Perform administrative duties such as answering phone calls and keeping our case filing system organized so all documents are readily accessible • Prepare legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings such as complaints, interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavits, under the supervision of a lawyer • Arrange law office activity such as drafting subpoenas and coordinating with process servers • Conduct interviews with clients to gather information about their legal issues • Work with lawyers to prepare for trial by conducting research on legal articles, preparing and organizing exhibits, organizing and coordinating witnesses, filing motions, and assisting with client meetings Qualifications: • Must have completed an ABA-approved paralegal certificate program such as an Associate’s degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor’s degree desired • Completion of a nationally-accredited paralegal program strongly preferred • At least 3 years of experience in legal services under an attorney or lawyer in a law firm setting • Must have strong interpersonal skills and talent for writing and grammar • Must have great time-management skills, and organizational skills • Native or professional fluency in English and Spanish; ability to conduct client intakes, interpret, and translate complex legal concepts accurately for Spanish-speaking clients. • Strong foundational knowledge of criminal law procedures, terminology, and court systems (including arraignments, pre-trial motions, bail hearings, and sentencing). • Proven experience drafting criminal defense documents, including motions to suppress, subpoenas, omnibus motions, and discovery requests. • Proficiency in organizing and analyzing extensive discovery materials, such as police reports, body-cam footage, medical records, and witness statements. • 2+ years of experience working as a paralegal specifically within a criminal defense practice or public defender's office. • Proficiency with legal case management software (e.g., Practice Panther, Clio, Filevine, or Smokeball) and e-filing systems for state and federal courts. • Exceptional emotional intelligence and a high level of discretion when handling sensitive case details and interacting with clients facing high-stress situations. Compensation: $55,000 - $75,000 yearly
