Alpert Schreyer, LLC is seeking an experienced Criminal Defense Attorney with 2-4 years of courtroom and litigation experience to join our Lanham, Maryland office. Former Assistant State's Attorney experience is strongly preferred, though not required, for candidates with commensurate criminal litigation and trial experience. This role is ideal for an attorney who is confident in court, ready to take ownership of cases, and motivated by autonomy, accountability, and results. This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for an attorney prepared to step into meaningful responsibility and handle criminal matters from start to finish. Responsibilities: • Independently manage a criminal defense caseload from charging through disposition • Appear regularly in the Maryland District and Circuit Courts • Provide clear, strategic guidance to clients facing serious criminal charges • Work collaboratively with a competent administrative and support team that enhances efficiency and effectiveness Handle all aspects of criminal litigation, including: • Motions practice • Suppression hearings • Bench and jury trials • Negotiations with prosecutors Qualifications: • 2-4 years of criminal defense or prosecutorial litigation experience • Experience in Maryland District and Circuit Courts • Active Maryland bar license (required) • Prior experience as an Assistant State's Attorney strongly preferred • Strong trial advocacy, legal writing, and oral argument skills • Ability to work independently with sound judgment and professionalism • Ethical, client-centered approach to criminal defense practice Compensation: $85,000 - $95,000 plus incentives
