    DESCRIPTION

    Crossroads is seeking a Paralegal II to support the U.S. Attorney's Office in Grand Rapids, MI. The Paralegal will will perform a variety of litigation support services in support of the investigation and prosecution of cases under the USAO's Affirmative Civil Enforcement program. 

    Requirements

    -Develop an understanding of applicable federal, state, and local statutes, regulations, and guidance to the extent necessary to make sound decisions regarding the handling of data and records. Follow USAO policies and protocols for the management of case data and records.

    -Work closely with Automated Litigation Support (ALS) staff to manage case data, including using database software and other available technology. 

    -Assist with monitoring, quality control and verifying user input and output to automated litigation support systems.  

    -Troubleshoot, test and implement automated litigation support software, policies, and procedures.

    -Organize and maintain documents and evidence for efficient automated storage and retrieval, including through the use of computer-assisted litigation support systems.

    -Create and administer document review databases. Ensure the timely flow and availability of documents and electronic evidence collections, as well as the quality of database content.

    -Identify software packages such as: databases, spreadsheets and word processing applications based on the effectiveness of (1) presenting complex and voluminous evidence, (2) producing graphic demonstrative evidence, and (3) meeting individual user needs. Utilize the tools provided by DOJ.

    -Collect, process, cull, load, organize, index, log, track, produce, and present case data using various software programs.

    -Utilize software tools to extract file information, create images of files, and place file images and other file data into document review platforms.

    -Create reports to track electronic discovery processing and production.

    -Draft and review technical specifications for production requests and responses.

    -Review and analyze documents and information produced in investigations and discovery.

    -Monitor compliance with litigation hold requirements.

    -Use software programs, computer equipment, and audio/video equipment to assist AUSAs in presentations and trials (i.e., PowerPoint, Excel, Case Map, Trial Director or other trial presentation software).-Assist in obtaining or employing forensic and vendor services to gather and analyze evidence and prepare exhibits.-Maintain expertise on available e-discovery and litigation support systems.-Provide assistance, information, and training to Civil Division staff regarding the effective use of document and data processing and review platforms.-Work independently with representatives from law firms to resolve technical questions, address compatibility issues, and ensure timely and seamless document productions and reviews.-Build and maintain excellent relationships with ALS staff, Assistant United States Attorneys, federal agents, Civil Division paralegals, other support staff, and law firms.

    QUALIFICATIONS 

    - Paralegal must have strong technical background with computers, scanners, and data storage devices and equipment.

    - Paralegal must have  knowledge of current litigation technology tools and processes, such as document imaging, database management and design, optical character recognition, electronically stored information processing, and technology-assisted review.

    -A minimum of 2 years of experience using electronic document review platforms such as Eclipse and Relativity in the context of litigation.

    -A minimum of 2 years of experience using document management and presentation platforms such as Concordance, Sanction and Trial Director in the context of litigation or trials.

    -Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.

    -Undergraduate degree is preferred.

    - Paralegal must have working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, e.g.) and Apple software and devices.  Veterans encouraged to apply
