    Location: Venus, Florida Reports To: Maintenance Manager Position Type: Full-Time (non-exempt)

    Position Summary:

    The Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of Archbold Biological Station’s facilities. This includes laboratories, offices, dormitories, visitor areas, and historic buildings. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, environmentally conscious, and committed to supporting the Station’s mission of science, conservation, and education.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Clean and sanitize restrooms, kitchens, offices, and common areas.

    Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors and surfaces.

    Empty trash and recycling bins; ensure proper waste disposal.

    Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and request replenishments.

    Assist with setup and cleanup for meetings, events, and field courses.

    Report maintenance issues or safety hazards to the Maintenance Manager.

    Occasionally assist with light maintenance and outdoor tasks (e.g., sweeping walkways, cleaning porches, blowing sidewalks and other light maintenance tasks).

    Qualifications:

    High school diploma or equivalent.

    Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred.

    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform repetitive tasks.

    Commitment to environmental stewardship and safety protocols.

    Experience with light building maintenance, landscaping and vehicle maintenance.

    Ability to use hand tools and lawn equipment (e.g., hedgers, weed eater, yard rake, shovel)

    Work Environment:

    Indoor and outdoor settings across a biological research station.

    Interaction with scientists, staff, interns, and visitors.

    Exposure to natural elements and wildlife in a conservation-focused environment.
