The Henry Morrison Flagler Museum seeks a reliable and dedicated Custodian to join our team. Custodians play a vital role in supporting the Museum’s mission by maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our visitors, staff, and volunteers. This position is responsible for daily cleaning and upkeep of the Museum’s historic property, including galleries, offices, restrooms, and public spaces. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, pays attention to detail, and understands the importance of preserving a National Historic Landmark for future generations.
General Responsibilities
• Conduct daily/weekly walk-throughs of the collection and inspect historic rooms.
• Complete hands-on dry cleaning and cyclic housekeeping in decorated spaces.
• Support the Conservator with cyclic maintenance projects, object handling, accompanying subcontractors on site and assisting, as needed, in the conservation treatment of objects.
• Record and maintain the integrated pest management program.
• Assist the department with emergency preparedness efforts, including assisting in the training of museum staff from other departments.
• Proactively promote communication, collaboration, and customer service.
• Clean, scrub, polish and sanitize restrooms, including floors, walls, fixtures and hardware.
• Replenish supplies frequently.
• Operate automatic equipment and hand-controlled tools for cleaning hard surface floors, carpeted floors, steps/stairs, fountains, walls, windows and other vertical surfaces. Use ladders when necessary. Ensure equipment and tools are kept clean and in working order.
• Perform routine cleaning of surfaces in office spaces, conference rooms, staff break room and other communal areas.
• Remove trash and recycling, fill receptacles with new bags, clean receptacles when necessary.
• Replace light bulbs and perform minor repairs and non-technical maintenance when required.
• Provide logistical support for meetings, programs and events, including setting up and breaking down/storing tables, chairs and other equipment and materials. Provide onsite support during events, including cleaning and stocking of restrooms; monitor and address issues quickly and safely; clean up post-event.

Position Requirements
• At least one year of experience in custodial or janitorial work to include heavy-duty cleaning.
• Full-time position (40 hours per week)
• Rotating weekend shifts required
• Flexibility to work occasional evening shifts
• Overtime opportunities available • High School Diploma or GED.
• Positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, flexibility and commitment to collaboration and customer service.
• English fluency and good verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
• Physical stamina to perform repetitive tasks and lift heavy objects if required
• Quality awareness and attention to detail, time management and multi-tasking abilities; and ability to work with minimal supervision.
