Fall Internship D.C. Witness - Washington, DC Internship D.C. Witness Fall Internship D.C. WItness is looking for fall interns. We are a unique data and journalism organization that tracks every homicide in Washington, DC from date of death to judicial resolution. Without D.C. Witness, public officials can tout inaccurate statistics or misleading closure rates for homicides. Without D.C. Witness, parents who do not understand the legal system or know how to find out about a family members court case, would not have a way to have their questions answered. Without D.C. Witness, the perception of our citys homicides would remain defined by innuendo and alternative facts. If you are an undergraduate student or recent graduate with an interest in journalism, law, sociology, or social justice, join us for the fall as we try to shed light on what is happening in DC. We offer a hands on experience and will work with you to improve your writing, gain legal insight, and strengthen your accuracy, research, analytical and critical thinking skills. You will also get valuable experience interning at a nonprofit that works to help the DC community become safer. Availability requirements will vary, but students need to be able to commit to at least 3-4 hours, two days a week. Full day internships are also available. Students looking to gain course credit through internships should apply. Internships are expected to begin in late August/early September. During the internship, tasks may include: * Tracking homicide cases; * Attending court hearings/trials on homicides; * Writing briefs and long-form stories on homicide cases, data and trends; * Gathering and analysing criminal data; * Interviewing families of defendants and victims; * Interviewing court employees; * Working in groups to create broadcast projects; * Producing video or other broadcast content; and * Other administrative responsibilities.
