    Summary

    The role of Software Engineer- Applications responsible for architecting, designing, and engineering solutions based on enterprise infrastructure platforms that provide global hosting and connectivity services required for Rockwell Automation to achieve its strategic business goals. The Software Engineer- Applications will provide technology thought leadership and innovation within the Technology Center of Excellence (COE), collaborate with the technology domain architect to define architectural strategy, and ensure alignment between business strategy, infrastructure services, and capabilities. This role will be responsible for research, planning, road mapping, the definition of standards, solution design, and delivery of architecture work products within the technology domain. This role will help develop infrastructure policies, directives, standards, patterns, and processes and ensure they are the foundation for all proposed conceptual and logical system designs.

    Roles & Responsibilities

    THOUGHT LEADERSHIP & INNOVATION

    • Identify and recommend areas appropriate for research and lead proof of concepts required to understand capabilities and strengthen the business case for technology adoption
    • Develop strategic partnerships with technology suppliers to leverage their full breadth of value-added services and ability to co-innovate solutions
    • Establish and share best practices, lessons learned and architecture requirements based on a rapidly changing technology landscape and an in-depth knowledge of emerging technologies
    • Roadmap & Planning
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive architectural roadmaps that federate required investment, services, capabilities, dependencies, technology, and timeframe
    • Look across all architectural roadmaps to identify dependencies, implementation risks, and potential impacts to the enterprise to ensure on-time achievement of strategic objectives
    • Advise and participate in enterprise capacity and lifecycle management processes to ensure alignment between the current state and architectural roadmaps
    • Financial Acumen and Service Definition
    • Ability to develop a business case to demonstrate the business value of technology decisions
    • Work with IT financial leaders to help lead the transformation from a project-based to consumption-based IT funding model for infrastructure
    • Familiarity with developing a service catalog, service design, and developing and maintaining unit costs for standard services
    • Solution Architecture and Design
    • Plan, organize, and control multiple responsibilities to develop and deliver solution designs that help achieve project objectives within target time frames and are consistent with high-quality
    • Knowledge to drive and analyze business requirements to provide End-to-End solutions that cross domains and adhere to the constraints of architectural standards and patterns
    • Presentation skills to serve as the primary client-facing technical solution resource to describe as necessary the solution components required to meet business objectives
    • Cloud Architecture & Engineering
    • Drive the end-to-end automation of software-defined infrastructure solutions that enable delivery teams to rapidly provision hosting resources
    • Understand the challenges of large scale cloud deployment and provide subject matter expertise on cloud solutions
    • Assess optimization required of network and communication links of the cloud infrastructure
    • Architecture knowledge and hands-on experience with VMware based converged hosting platforms, network and storage virtualization and some combination of SSD's NFS, iSCSI, FC architectures, thin provisioning, data deduplication, and SAN environments

    VIRTUALIZATION/INFRASTRUCTURE

    • Extensive knowledge of the fundamentals of VMWare ESXi/Vsphere/hypervisor VMWare technologies, including VRealize and realize operations, and licensing.
    • Familiarity with VMWare migration/deployment techniques, like cloning, VRA blueprint, OVF template, and fling.
    • Knowledge with VMWare NSX as well as VMWare vSANtechnologies
    • Ability to use scripting, such as Powershell, PowerCLI, Python to automate tasks and deployments.
    • Ability to measure performance and report using VROPS
    • Solid knowledge and familiarity of Windows/Linux operating systems
    • Strong knowledge of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
    • Solid experience and familiarity with Microsoft Azureinterface, including migration techniques, support, and security using the portal or command line.
    • Expertise with SAN/NAS administration such as fiber channel networking, volume management fundamentals, and performance tuning
    • Networking knowledge router/switch configuration, IP addressing, subnet masking, and IP scope definition.
    • Ability to lead efforts to set up new VMWare environmental additions, such as VXRail hardware, or construct new environments as needed.

    DEVOPS/CI/CD

    • Knowledge of Terraform and automation technologies, including deployment, support, and automation techniques.
    • Working knowledge of Jenkins, Openshift, and Git
    • Ability to support deployment pipelines and build processes, especially as applied to VMWare VRealize Automation (VRA) and Microsoft Azure.
