Job Title: Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) – Temporary to Permanent Hire Location: Ocean Dental Group Reports to: Dentist, Floor Supervisor, Office Manager
Position Overview
At Ocean Dental Group, we take pride in delivering exceptional dental care to a diverse patient base with a strong focus on professionalism, compassion, and clinical excellence. We are currently seeking a Dental Assistant or Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) for a temporary-to-permanent position.
While both Dental Assistants and Registered Dental Assistants play key roles in supporting the dental team, RDAs are licensed professionals in the state of California who are legally permitted to perform a broader scope of clinical duties. This includes tasks such as coronal polishing, application of sealants, and taking final impressions—all under the supervision of a licensed dentist.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
Prepare patients for dental procedures and ensure comfort throughout their visit.
Provide patient education on proper oral hygiene practices.
Assistance with Dental Procedures
Assist the dentist during procedures including fillings, extractions, and root canal therapy.
Provide chairside support: passing instruments, suctioning, patient positioning.
Perform advanced clinical tasks such as:
Fabricating provisional crowns
Taking preliminary impressions
Intraoral scanning for fixed and removable prosthetics
Applying Pit & Fissure Sealants
Performing in-office whitening treatments (e.g., Zoom)
Taking diagnostic dental X-rays
Dental Hygiene Functions (RDA-specific)
Conduct coronal polishing
Perform light hand-scaling (as allowed by certification)
Apply fluoride treatments
Sterilization & Equipment Maintenance
Sterilize and maintain dental instruments and operatory rooms to ensure patient safety.
Administrative Support
Schedule appointments and maintain accurate patient records.
Deliver post-operative instructions and reinforce treatment plans.
Qualifications
Active Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license, issued by the Dental Board of California
Current CPR Certification (BLS or ACLS)
Dental assisting experience preferred but not required
Solid knowledge of dental procedures, instruments, and terminology
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Skills & Competencies
High level of competency in assisting with general and specialized dental procedures
Excellent organization and attention to detail
Team-oriented with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced clinical setting
